I'd wager both. There's more fantasy than Scifi, but it's there. My guess is that magic might of came later, or it is some quasi-magitech. While arms seems to still be in the metal age, there exists things from both modern and future tech levels. Possible apocalypse, possibly other dimensions, possibly from other time lines... Who's to say. We're not even sure if there is a world outside the dungeon, supposedly there is, but for all we know that is all there is.

You head west from the room south of the market. You find yourselves in an area with a grid of darkened tiles on the floor. Odd colored stands with + and - on either side of their tops rest in different areas on the grid. It looks like you might be able to squeeze past that one on the other end if you wanted to get to the exit.

Part 2 of the graphical upgrade now in testing. We have a nice GUI and, to compensate for no longer displaying more than one room at a time, a map and more obvious exits are shown. Doors have been removed entirely in favor of Zelda 1 style exits around the borders.

I like this graphical style better. It's cleaner to look at and having the map displayed makes it easier to see where the room is in relation to the other ones. I would suggest maybe highlighting the room we're currently in, though? The arena room is currently indicated with a different color, but we're one south and one west from it. That could be confusing for people who haven't been keeping up with area transitions.

Edit: Unless that's what the * is for. ^^^; For some reason I saw that and immediately thought it meant a puzzle.

I realized that just before you posted. Sorry for the derp on my end there. ^^^; A legend for the map would be cool, but I'm not sure what should be marked. Shops, quest givers, and checkpoints, at the very least.  Perhaps floor transitions or 'special' areas (like the arena) as well?
