Death star.

Quote
Both Death Stars were defended by hundreds of shield projectors (including Deflection towers), and thousands of turbolasers, ion cannons and laser cannons. The first one contained a complement of seven to nine thousand TIE fighters, along with tens of thousands of support craft, bombers, and gunships. Massive docking bays provided several Star Destroyers with dry docks, and more than a million Imperial personnel were on board both battle stations.

Quote
One drawback of the original design was the power systems. Twenty-four hours were required to fully charge the laser. However, even low power shots were capable of massive destruction on a planetary scale. The second Death Star had redesigned systems and was capable of firing the superlaser once every three minutes. It also had improved targeting computers, allowing it to fire the weapon accurately at capital ships.

There were small gaps in the shields of the first Death Star; the Empire believed that this was harmless since only small ships could wiggle through the gaps. The shields of the second Death Star would have had no such gaps.

The second Death Star also corrected several other flaws in the original design. The two-meter exhaust vent that doomed the first station was replaced with millions of millimeter wide tubes, each designed to seal if excess energy was detected. The second station also boasted far more turbolaser batteries with redesigned targeting systems, allowing them to target starfighters more easily. The greatest concentration of turbolasers was located near the Emperor's throne tower.

I don't know anything about the Sovereign. But I think this speaks for itself. >.> I strongly suspect this Sovereign cannot withstand a planet-destroying laser beam fired with pinpoint accuracy once every three minutes.

And if it can, then the DS just launches 'lolz-all-da-fuckin-fighter-craft', drags it down with sheer numbers, and runs it over like a big space-speed bump.

I don't think there's anything in the ME universe that can withstand a planet-destroying laser.

I think the three-minute charge time was for the smaller, capital ship-busting shots. A full-sized planetbuster would take longer.

A moon-sized planet-destroying superweapon versus a moon-sized blob of flesh? I think the superweapon wins :|

Emperor Palpatine constantly maintained a low-level presence in the minds of his soldiers to make them more fanatical and boost their reflexes, at least by a little. No puny insanity powers would mess with that, at least not before the big laser fired.

I think that an entity composed of an entire species' psychic potential could beat out Palpatine, no matter how powerful he was.

What's the range on those insanity powers? Can they completely overwhelm Palpatine (questionable in and of itself), much less in sufficient time to prevent the Death Star from initiating a hyperspace jump and positioning itself at the outermost edge of the superlaser's range? By the by, the estimated effective range of the superlaser (which is actually god-knows-what, maybe a particle cannon or something) is 2m km (optimum) to 420m km (maximum), requiring two 30% power shots for core-cracking or one full power shot for a second Alderaan. Make of that what you will.

Don't forget that the insanity powers don't tend to work on smart people, and that (Tarkin's refusal to take the rebels seriously notwithstanding) some of the Empire's best and brightest worked on the Death Star. The dumber ones (like Stormtroopers) are heavily conditioned to avoid panicking or going nuts. So it's questionable how well the insanity power would work on the Death Star's crew.

No idea, as I'm not that much of a Dead Space buff. These things are about the size of an actual moon, can FTL travel, and apparently cause Necromorph invasions in their sleep. I'll try to find a link or something.

A second Alderaan? Good god, that's huge.
