Not knowing anything about "exhalting", I can't comment :P

It gets silly. Is like, the best way I can explain it. I get a lot of my headcanon for it from Keychain of Creation and stuff like A Green Sun Illuminates the Void.

The best way I can explain it, I think, is, like. Superpowers by way of kung-fu Platonic Form bullshit. Or... something. Basically there were these things created to murder the manifested conceptual underpinnings of reality and, uh. Did. And people can turn into them, via Exalting. WH40k, they'd be something along the lines of Necron (because they've sorta' got infinite respawn) mixed with hyperpsykers (they do silly ass shit*.) and space marines (superhuman through and through, some of these buggers could probably armwrestle dreadnaughts or something. It can get silly.) by way of underlying warp entity overlay or... something along those lines. It's somewhat complicated!

But it's a (mostly) fantasy level of hilarious horseshit that basically matches the place in (loose) sci-fi that WH40k fits in. There's a really incredible level of (being fair, very interesting!) wank going on.

*It's kind of a fair example, in Cast in Gold I mentioned above, one of the things the main character is enabled to do by exalting is break anything. Conceivably including less direct entities, such as the need for sleep. But more directly, the bugger could take a rolled up newspaper and cut through WH40k adamantium. Not via strength or anything. Simply because that's how it works. It basically allows the character to apply the platonic concept of breaking onto a desired object, destroying it on a metaphysical level. That's one of the ways Exalted powers work.

Who would win in a chess game: Usurkar Creed of TACTICAL GENUIS (intentional spelling) fame, or Thrawn from Star Wars?

Are we assuming that they're both familiar with the game?

Sure. Thrawn is most definetely interested in the game (I think), and I'm fairly sure chess has survived to the 41st millenium.

I'm relatively sure with Creed involve the rules would quickly be come irrelevant.

And yeah, WH40k has something vaguely related to chess. Called something different, though.

It has, though the name has been changed to "regicide" and the piece names have changed.
Other than that, as far as I can tell it's identical.

Thrawn, on the other hand...I'm not sure chess exists in the SW verse, or at least not in any way we'd recognize. I think we'd have to assume that Thrawn is at least allowed to read the rulebook ahead of time, maybe have a practice game or two.

Tis only fair.
Although knowing him he could probably figure out the rules by looking at each piece.

There's that holoboard game, Dejarik. And also there actually is Chess in the GFFA. Chess. Note, Wookieepedia is not my only source, it's just the easiest and I'm lazy.

Knew about dejarik, but didn't include it because it seems like a very different game than chess. Didn't know about chess, and I must bow to your superior knowledge :P

Okay, so Thrawn probably would know about chess. He'd probably be pretty good at it as well. So the question remains:
Creed or Thrawn?

At first it would seem like Thrawn was dominating the field but at the last second a pawn would a appear in the most opportune place of a checkmate. Thrawn would look at the pawn wonder what kind of tactical genius could put that th-CRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDDDDDDDDD!

I think Creed is a total badass, but Thrawn. Thrawn all the way. This is the guy that figured out how to use cloaking technology with realistic problems (Can't see out, can't receive any communications) with extreme effectiveness. One method I particularly liked was parking a starship under a planetary energy shield, like a week before you get there. Then, show up in orbit, and order them to surrender. When they don't fire down into the shield. Have the other ship have complicated orders, set to a timer, when the timer reaches zero, they fire their guns down.

In the end, it looks like you shot right through the energy shield. Which is awesome.

Another good one? Equip a bunch of asteroids with cloaking fields, and drop them in orbit over a inhabited planet, in stable orbits. Sure, space is huge, but do you really want to gamble your life?

Ursakar Creed can hide a Baneblade behind a telephone pole, and has held back (A?) Black Crusade. But Grand Admiral Thrawn is the only ALIEN to ever be respected by the Emperor, the only alien to attain Grand Admiralship, and can also hide a motherfucking fleet of Star Destroyers in absolute emptiness with no cover AT ALL.

That's only half of the genius. He figured out a way to make it look like his ships were dropping something like 3 times the number of asteroids that they actually did. So even after the Republic managed to find all of the real asteroids, they stayed safe under the shield because they feared that there were far more still waiting.
