Ragnarok Online 2
« on: January 15, 2013, 02:02:45 am »

I have to admit I'm a sucker for free-to-play MMOs. Doesn't matter how bad they are. It doesn't matter how poorly translated, boring, full of "buy to win" content, or grindy they are. I just love the charm and feeling of playing them. Of course I never last long, but it's still a fun little side thing to play around with. Now with that said I can't claim that RO2 is any of these things, not yet anyway, because I've only just begun playing. However I can say that so far I'm really enjoying it. The translations aren't.. great, sure, and there's a lot of input lag for a westerner like myself.. but it's still enjoyable-so far.

I never played Ragnarok Online the original but I heard quite a bit about it. Grindy is what most people had to say. Again I can't say for certain that RO2 is similar in that way. But if you share my enthusiasm for F2P mmo's...

Me selling a batch of crafted swords near a busy road on Mt. Newbie. Nothing spells "fun" like leaving the game minimized while you sleep to acquire imaginary currency!

Not sure if addicted to skinner boxes, or just trolling...

It's more of a nostalgia thing for me. I don't really read any of the quests or look at the rewards unless I'm really into the game, most of the time I'm just playing through, watching other people, and enjoying the atmosphere. It brings back memories.. that have some how turned sweet from sour. But I'm not getting the "Runes of Magic" vibe from this game, not yet anyway. I'm not being asked to spend cash for bag space.

Great, now I'm nostalgiaing out after looking at their website.

*sigh* Guess I'm gonna have to give this a try sometime. Butchering porings for six hours here I come!

You know, I have the same sort of nostalgic feelings thanks to a lot of time spent on Maple Story, when I was twelve or so.
The difference is, the game I love for reminding me of that grindy time is Fortune Summoners, and that's not really an MMORPG... still, amazing atmosphere...

One thing to expect with RO2 is the server lag. It seems to be lagging for everyone, not just westerners. Asiasoft is.. apparently.. notorious for skimping out on their servers? That's what I've been told by the majority of people I've asked. Right now (3:25am PST) the delay is unbearable, I'm having to wait ~2 seconds every time I use an ability or try to interact with npcs.  I'm not sure how quickly this will improve.

In further grim news, apparently you can't reset your stats/skill points without paying real money. I imagine they'll relax that eventually, but for the moment do take care.

The nostalgia is strong on this one. My body is ready.

They changed the entire map though, kinda makes me sad.

Eyyy, might have to check this out, maybe after the server issues clear up. And I've always enjoyed MMOs myself. :P

My computer won't be able to run this, will it? Oh well, I'm not a fan of the Ragnarok franchise to begin with. I just wanted someone to play with and have fun with in a game. Kind of why I got into massively-multiplayer online games to begin with really...

So you're saying that this has already been released? Dammit I'm slow on the uptake. And I just grinded almost 90 levels in the original game :V

I would love if some one tried to make a comparison between this one and the original one,  i basically loved the 1st one becouse of all the knowledge you needed to build your character and how everyone was REALLY diferent from each other in every aspect.
