The Crazy faction is not insignificant within the NRA.
Well yeah, otherwise it would've been pretty difficult for them to secure the leadership and spokesperson positions.

Yea. I have actually been on their website recently while I was looking for a local shooting range. It made my eye twitch, they are using "liberal" as a dirty word and insulting people like me when I could theoretically support part of what they are about.

They do know that some Liberals actually outright support the right to bare small firearms within the confines of the house right?

In fact the best arguements I ever heard for guns in the house were from liberals...

Ewe... I actually voted for Nader once...

Kinda regretting it now.

Actually, i have never had the opportunity to vote for someone I really agree with.

Republicans take a shit on every right except the right to bear arms.

Democrats take a half shit on most rights, and a double shit on the right to bear arms.

Damn it, I like bear arms, they are sooo fluffy.

There's always Vermont.

What is sad is I heard my Canadian News outright say on the air that the Crazy people who spoke for the NRA were "fair" to show because they did in fact represent a large number of Americans.

Which is kinda... odd.

Unfortunately true, though, in my personal experience.  I know quite a few people who honestly believe the government is plotting to fully disarm the population in the near future, and speak openly about how they're prepared to go down in a blaze of glory in defense of their 2nd amendment.

I would approve of that notion, were it not for them taking others with them. Would get rid of the worst nutjobs well enough.

On a related note, I wonder about the right's stance on ursine appendages.

One only need look at the sales of ammunition and firearms coincident with a black Democrat being inaugurated as President to see how significant the "crazy white folks with guns" segment is.

And yeah, I went there.

That just means all us crazy liberals should go out and buy guns to protect us from the crazy conservatives.

Guns turn people stupid.

This is by far the most important lesson I've learned over the years. Conservative? Liberal? Anything else?

Doesn't matter. 99.9% chance the topic alone turns you stupid. No one is immune.

Either that or everyone is already crazy and guns are really attractive as an opportunity to broadcast it.

So. If everyone is going to be stupid crazy about guns, there's really only one solution...

Give everyone guns? Like, even my four year old? She loves guns! [/sarcasm, just in case.]

Guns turn people stupid.

One of the gun crazies I know almost shot one of his relatives, because they let themselves into his home unannounced.  He's only just recently started purchasing guns and practicing with them, but already regards himself as an expert.  And of course his first reaction to a noise downstairs is to investigate at gunpoint.

But I don't think they turn everyone crazy.  My uncle has a large gun collection and simply enjoys shooting, but I can't imagine him behaving that way.

Some of the crazy is just more subtle SalmonGod. Or hey, he could be part of the 1%. Those who own guns simply because they enjoy shooting occassionally seem to be more likely to fall into this category. Those who purchase guns for "self-defense", meanwhile, have been and without exception in my experience, batshit crazy. Where guns are involved, anyway. Otherwise very nice, sane people, but man that whole self defense concept sends them right off the end of the loopy-meter if it ever comes up in conversation.

I'm sure there's folks, somewhere, maybe, who could buy a gun for self-defense purposes without being crazy, but I've never actually encountered them.
