Spoiler: What is a succession game? (click to show/hide)

A form of lets play, especially popular in the dwarf fortress forums, where people play for a given amount of time before sending the save along to another player. This creates a dynamic and interesting game and story because of the different play styles, story perspective and so on.

Spoiler: What is CKII? (click to show/hide)

A grand strategy game of intrigue and warfare. You play as a character that is head of a family, also called a dynasty, and your job is to marry, mate and murder (Not necessarily in that order) your way into greatness for you and your family. If you die, as you are wont to do in the middle ages, you play as your heir. But watch out! Your family might want a piece of that inheritance and they have just as many options to ensure this.

So one of my favorite games of late is CK2 and I had been thinking about doing a LP of it. But then it hit me that it might be more fun to do a succession game!

But I need to know if there is enough people here who want to participate before going ahead, can't have a succession game with only one person, no? 

Anyway, I figured the game mechanics supported a succession game very well: every time the ruler dies the save file is packed up and send on.

For the un-initiated; the game works by you controlling a single character, once he or she dies your heir takes over and your control that person instead.

Could be a lot of fun, as each new ruler tries to take the dynasty in his own direction. The reason I suggest the a game of thrones mod is that as far I know it does not have an end date like vanilla CK2 and thus allows for us to play as long as we wish.

I might change the front post to a more fitting state once we begin but here is a premilinary overseer/family head (whatever we call it) and dworfing list. On that note; you can name your children, but there is no guarantee that they survive. So you might end up playing as someone else in the forum. If someone have a suggestion how to solve this problem please come with them.

This sounds amazing! I'm not very versed in the ways of CK2 but, I have played it before and am willing to play. I like the idea of a succesion game instead of multiplayer! Not sure about the mod but you can edit the end date quite easily, I would prefer to play vannila due to the fact that I don't know anything about GoT but either way count me in!

Beyond having tried and failed multiple times to read through A Song of Ice and Fire, I'm all for this and really would not mind playing your homosexual, deaf, mute, heathen son with a hair-lip and slight physical defect.

It seems like there is enough people to get the ball running. Added a pool so I can get a feeling with how people think about using mods or not (tough it seems so far that most seems in favor of vanilla).

Tough with the vanilla option I will still try to figure out how to mod it just a little to remove the end date and perhaps add in a custom family name that fits the endeavor. But I have little experience with modding so no guarantees on not fucking up everything, if someone with more experience is willing to help out that would be great.

Oh, and depending on people preference on vanilla or mod perhaps its time to suggest starting county accordingly? Once we have decided on mod or vanilla I will take suggestions up for vote.

Hey no problem, if you are bad and/or new to the game that is just fine; need someone to fuck things up (un-intentionally preferably) to make things more challenging for experienced players, no? 

And as for being poor at LPing. Gotta start somewhere; important part is just to keep note of important and interesting events, preferably with some screenshots to visualize it. Then its just a matter of writing a story around it, and you can get better at that by trying and thereby training your skills. I am not exactly an expert either, have only done one and a half community fortress, but if ya want I might be able to help write some stuff up.

But its fine if you only want to watch too. No one forcing you to anything you don't want.

I'd be very interested in joining this, as I love this game. Always fancied a bash at writing an LP too.

I would vote against a Song of Ice and Fire mod game though - the mod is very impressive, but the books are rubbish. I wonder if there is a general fantasy map mod for CK2? It's already completely ahistorical as soon as you press go!

Hostergaard, I'm not sure what of the dlc you have (I have everything) but the Character Creator allows you to literally create your dynasty from scratch, anywhere. So naming isn't an issue.

As far as mods go, there's always CK2 Plus, The Prince and the Thane (sounds interesting), Lux Invicta, and just for the sake of the madness potential the Kingdom of Gensokyo (Touhou) mod. Keep in mind, I usually play vanilla so I'm just looking at what sounds interesting. Also it appears that there is an Elder Scrolls mod in the works but that apparently hasn't been released in any form yet by the modders.

I am interested, but be warned I have played the game for a staggering time of 30 minutes. Played through the tutorial, played the actual game for 5 seconds. Had to stop because of other things.

Well, so far favor seems to be with playing vanilla. I don't have character creator but I might be have the money to buy it, or I could get someone else to create the dynasty. Does someone know if its possible to change the end date after game start?

Oh, and if we go vanilla, there is the option of keeping the ending date and then transferring the save to EUIII and continue there. How about that? Once that ends I believe there is also other paradox games where the save can be continued, but I haven't played any of those games.


On the note of where to start; I would personally prefer a single county start to make it more challenging, but if there is a strong wish for something else that is fine to.

I'd be okay with most mod choices. I haven't tried ck2 plus, but have heard good things and wouldn't mind giving it a shot.

I have the character creator in case we decide on making our dynasty from scratch, makes it a little harder as you don't have a large bloodline and the characters tend to start our weaker. But definitely an added bit of fun.

I would strongly push for a single county start as I am of the opinion that it will make our accomplishments all the sweater once we've spread our bloodline across the known world!
