I have looked into CK2+ with Shattered mode that was suggested last time, but it seems pretty slow with everyone starting as single (two at most) county, no holy wars or claims. Kingdoms and duchies are vanilla de jure, so there isn't that much flexibility in creating your own domain compared to the New World mod. Anything I'm missing?

Last time I played it, people automatically got claims over time, slowly decreasing as they got larger, so it's somewhat faster than you think.

Also, yes, there's mostly only vanilla kingdoms, but there's also special ones like Saxony, Bavaria, Cornwall, Mercia, and some others scattered about. I don't know why you're complaining about De Jure duchies though, seeing as both A New World and CK2+ seem to use roughly the same duchies.

Also, I prefer it a little slower personally, since there's effectively no challenging AIs around anymore in our own game.

Unknown to most but the insane and the mystics, Tarran is actually Earth itself, as Earth is sentient like that planet in Avatar. Originally Earth used names such as Terra on the internet, but to protect it's identity it changed letters, now becoming the Tarran you know today.

Tarran has the "Tarran Bug", a bug which causes the affected character to repeatedly hit teammates while dual-wielding instead of whatever the hell he is shooting at.

A New World uses /any/ four counties to create duchies, so it's a big difference to me but it's not really a complaint ; ]
If we gain claims over time, then guess that's fine. I don't mind it being slower, but when it seems like you can expand only through fabricating claims for first couple dozen years, it's too slow :) Gonna give it another try to check for those auto-claims.

Dre, if that was possible, then you would have seen me doing stuff like creating the duchy of Genoa from Lancaster. Are you sure you aren't confusing the terms you're using? Perhaps you mean you can create a kingdom from any 4 duchies?

You can also expand with inheritance. I remember inheriting 2 sizable duchies (with additional counties) before. With religion being the same as in vanilla and Gavelkind succession rampant, you get some potential good marriages within the same religion if you murder a little.

You are right! Confused it with that kingdom creation. Joined late, think I have misread somewhere that it also applied to duchies.

Will give CK2+Shattered a longer go sometime this week and see how it plays out.

Hrrm, tried two different counties and in case of Constantinople my ruler died of age before ever getting any claim (no autoclaim or fabricated). Countess of Lesbos got her first fabricated claim after 30 years of ruling. Rather stale gameplay.

I have noticed there is a "Reign of Princes" in Shattered-mode, which creates independent duchy-sized states rather than single(dual) counties. Nowhere near as fast as A New World, but it's not as mind-numbingly uneventful. Have you tried it, Tarran?

Yes, your leader dying is in fact a problem, though old age is easily solved by picking a young ruler or ruler designing. You should worry more about dying in battle due to crappy crown authority.

As for your lack of claims... heh, I thought mine was slow. My current game has it coming in far faster in the beginning, but I'm getting jack now that I'm a duchy+ in size, from either my chancellor or the event. So there's certainly some amount of randomness. Though I've certainly seen the AI get rather big, especially when they're near a religious enemy.

I've never played Reign of Princes, but I believe some of the dukes have more than one duchy, so I worry a little more about balance than the one-county start.

Welp, turns out CK2+ is not a good idea because god hates everyone too much.

Fivex, if you're interested, we're playing CK2+ again with slight modifications.

Edit: I now firmly believe that god hates me.

God helps the strong and doesn't show any mercy to those who give in to the rebels! =P
But now you are back as a duke, enjoying stability and prosperity as my vassal...

And enjoying your wonderful uncreative moderately annoying renaming scheme for my capital.

Also, didn't have a choice with the rebels. Their army outnumbered mine by a large margin and the warscore was already way in the negatives. I was also at war with someone else, and the defining battle went pear shaped due to the rebellions taking away troops. Unless I begged you for a lot of cash for mercs, there was next to no chance of winning.

At the very least, I can say I didn't resort to begging you for more money than what was rightfully mine.
