I don't exactly know why I'd want my adventurer's to become pudgy, but I'm curious.  Does eating have any effect, whatsoever?  If not, is there any way, modded or otherwise, to gain fat while playing?

My experience in .31 from eating giant eagles was yes. However with the advent of adventurers actually hungering now, I suppose you can also get thinner.
Having no fat can often have the buggy result of making your adventure immune to death by fire and immolation, whereas having more fat can protect adventurers from many attacks, especially blunt ones like punches and pommel strikes.

As far as I've seen it's possible in this version too, just by eating or not.

It's certainly hard to lose most of your fat, because in a little science run I did there was no effect after starving for about two weeks.
I also wouldn't worry about blunt attacks, because the only ones of those that truly matter will be fatal either way. (Collapsing your chest through your heart, or a smashed skull.)

Blunt wounds stack; having that extra layer of fat can mean the difference between bruising and breaking.

I didn't even know weight gain/loss was possible. I thought it was just random.

Hearty foods.  I know food has satiation value.  I assume that its a simple net gain/loss thing or maybe toady has something else set up.  You up for science?

The best way to do this is to kill a dragon-ish creature,butcher it and then sleep in its lair and keep eating 3 meats.
When you go to your character screen/description screen it should say that you are fat.
