It's actually 110 dwarves right now, and still no siege?   ???

It's better than an elf population of 80 dwarves.

@Footjob, you can microwave most grains I've tried pretty easily through the microwave, even if they aren't packaged for it.

It may be because your fortress just isn't worth enough dwarf bucks right now. Or maybe the goblin civilization got murdered by zombies, check the civilization screen for that.

Right after I posted this I got sieged. It was bad for me. There were 3 squads of goblins coming at the same time as merchants. The merchants were murdered and I sent my soldiers to assemble outside while the goblins were distracted. The goblins killed the merchants and charged my army of 30 dwarves. In the end, after all the blood, gore, and babies that were killed in the battle (I drafted moms into the army as punishment.) my army had been reduced to 15, with 10 of the 15 wounded. For some reason, they are not visiting the hospital. Probably because I sent EVERYONE outside to get the spoils of war after the siege.

About how long until the next one?
And is there a punishment for the merchants being killed? I didn't kill them, but I still think i'm responsible. (Imagine if YOU sent merchants and they didn't come back alive. "A Goblin army killed your merchants!! We had nothing to do with it!" "Dwarf Please.")

Whats even more worse is that it's winter, and I don't have any water for cleaning wounds.

Ouch. You should build an underground well - that'll fix the water issue pretty quickly. As to the merchants, no, I don't think there's any punishment. I think there used to be, but it either broke or Toady removed it temporarily.

the wounded should eventually go to the hospital and get treated .as long as you have a hospital zone set up. My dwarves just use their rooms, and I install traction benches as needed.

The next one could come by the end of the next season, or it could be years. My current fort has been sieged once, and that was several years ago.

The merchants will probably just come with less goods next year, elves and humans are the only ones who will actually siege you if you mistreat them enough.

I object on this point. I had a fort that lasted twenty years before it died of FPS death, and every year, I murdered the elves. I think it works if you use DFHack's fixdiplomats (or something similar to that), but I don't think they'll siege in Vanilla. Possibly fewer goods, yes, but I'm almost positive they won't declare war.

Typically, you only get a max of one siege per season per hostile civ.  However, ambush squads, thieves, and baby snatchers can show up in between sieges.
You can have many ambush squads at once, which can be almost as fun as a siege.

Actually, ambush squads are treated the same as sieges - they're triggered by the same "event" and thus cannot overlap. Babysnatchers and thieves, however, are distinct from sieges and can happen at the same time.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

I've gotten to 175 dwarfs without triggering a siege twice now. I'm pretty sure it's because I didn't have enough generated wealth. They sent ambushes at a fairly rapid pace, but that could just be because I let a few snatchers get away...

In my most recent fort an injured dwarf moved himself back to the beds (not a dorm, not assigned or available, just "beds").  The medical dwarf eventually went over and diagnosed his busted open leg and patched him up.  The dwarf walked off on his own with sutures and a bandage, but before getting assigned crutches despite the "ability to stand lost", however.

So, a motivated dwarf doctor will actually make house calls.  You just have to find one that "likes helping others", at the least. ;)

[edit] Oh, and i almost forgot, I did not have a hospital zone set up yet, but the doc still did his job.  I found that to be very useful information.

Oh crap. Everyone is interrupting each other and nothing is getting done. Are they throwing tantrums and hitting each other or something? People are dying due to thirst and hunger because they can't take care of themselves because of constant interruption.

How did you send kill orders to the army? If you used a rectangle you might have caught some straggling traders or pack animals in the killzone. Find one of the dwarves who's causing the interruption and examine their thoughts screen. If you see 's/he is an enemy of [your civ]', you need to get them away from everyone else until they die of something.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.
