Friendly beastmen?
« on: January 11, 2013, 01:40:36 am »

So I discover my first cavern, find a bunch of frog people--and one of them is friendly. Why?

" If a hostile amphibian man kills a forgotten beast, they will become friendly."

I would guess its because he kills something that raises his reputation with the dwarves.

If you view the description of the weapon in his inventory, it'll show anything it's been used to kill. (Obviously, it won't list any victims if he kicked whateveritwas to death.)

Yeah, probably she killed a berzerker.

I personally ran into this situation once during an embark which had the sole purpose of finding a 'curious structure' without doing any digging (ie. Travelling underground through caves and downward passages). I had drafted my seven starting dwarfs into a single squad and was moving them around the unexplored areas of the cavern together. Somewhere along the way they ran into a tribe of ant men and got into a fight with them. Of course, my unarmed and unarmoured dwarfs stood no chance against the antmen's darts and spears and were quickly killed. However I noticed that, strangely enough, any antman (including their queen) who killed a dwarf would eventually become listed as 'friendly' on the units screen and stop fighting whilst those with no kills to their name remained hostile. I'm not sure if every single antman with a dwarf kill became friendly (this happened around five months ago). Also no loyalty cascade was created between the friendly and hostile antmen.

Update: I've now noticed that she hasn't moved since the battle.

I vaguely remember that friendly beast-men won't kill a fellow beast-man.

But she hasn't done anything else, either. Don't they have to eat?

I just discovered a new way to make use of berserkers, tantrum and loyalty spirals, and werebeasts.
I'll make a squad of friendly beastmen!
