necromancer tower
« on: January 10, 2013, 05:57:07 pm »

ok i am rather new but have on my 15th try successfully made an adventurer who has moderate success, please bear with me.

i have come across a necromancer tower not far from one of my favorite cities and have tried several times to take it over. my question is:
what is the best way to deal with all the undead? i can kill the necromancers no problem but the undead just overwhelm me.

Throw rocks, if you can land a sucsessful hit, and mabye break a bone, it will make it colapse ( or atleast thats what happens when I do it.) Good luck on getting there, make sure no necro's have a crossbow, or else your fucked.

Find a vampire and drink its blood. Zombies don't attack vampires, as they are both undead. Alternatively, try to read a book that makes you a necromancer as soon as possible.

also can you only find a book to become a necromancer in the towers they occupy?

Thought being a necromancer makes you have fun undead armies it as well stuns your ability to gain more attributes so my suggestion is swim in the water for a couple of days then throw rocks bang rocks ect until you are super[racenamehere] then you will be unstoppable but a easy way is to open the door so they start chasing you run as far as you can so they scatter into the wild and bang empty

Problem is. Necromancers like to write reports and tributes, you need to find a book that has the secrets of life and death or the original slab. Or else you'll be reading about a report on a tribute to a report about the book about the slab.

A while back, I had an adventurer with Legendary Ambusher. The zombies did not spot me even when I was standing right next to them. I used throwing to clear out a path, picked up every book I found, read them all. I got one with the secret in less than 10 tries.

Dead bodies seem to instantly collapse zombies upon impact, problem is you need high throwing and the Necro can just re-reanimate them. But if you can lure the zombies out away from their masters, works fine.

I bring a large army of companions and try to use them as meat shields.

First I strategically position my companions on one side of the tower, then I carefully allow a few zombies to see me and come out. I only attack straggler zombies if I get that option, or the ones that are busy eating my companions' brainsss.

I sometimes throw a spare weapon at the necromancer if there's a line of sight, that can help if I'm lucky.

I assume the zombies noticed when you attempted to get between their legs?

Not quite what I meant...

So, lying down to move through the same tile as the zombie results in "You've been spotted!", red text spam, and "You are deceased"?

Hard science is like a sword, and soft science is like fear. You can use both to equally powerful results, but even if your opponent disbelieve your stabs, they will still die.

That's because you can't move through hostile creatures, you automatically attack them when you try.

Of course. That was a really dumb question.

There are no dumb questions. Only dumb dwarves in fort mode.

Using a whip and hitting a corpse has always resulted in a collapsing zombie for me.
Haven't tried throwing, but with high enough wrestling...

There are no potions, spells, area-of-effect attacks, reach, smoke bombs, or climbing you can do (unfinished game). Your options are to either be a legendary ambusher, be a vampire, or have legendary fighting skills and kill one necromancer at a time, pretty much rushing to read the slab somewhere in the upper levels.

When you fight multiple opponents, especially if you "charge", the group fighting you can get attacks described as "from behind" and "from the side", and those are devastating even if you are covered in armor, with legendary armor user, shield user, and dodge skills.

Move around a lot and try to kite the zombie mob so you only hit one at a time. If necessary, dump the bodies outside line of sight so necromancers won't raise them. Maybe you can light campfires on them to burn them away.

Also, there is a bug where if you leave the tower and come back, new necromancers will be loaded in the tower. So you can't lead the zombies far away to kill them and whittle their number down, then come back.

Most weapons are pretty good against zombies, just try not to cut off their limbs.

I guess one advantage you sort of have is that necromancers feel pain (I thiiiiink). You can get an easy bone-breaking hit on one, then deal with the mob (or their other wizard buddies) while they're unconscious.
