I am using one of Red Factions upgraded vehicles.  The cargo truck with the missile launcher on the roof.  Problem is, I get to the last phase, and wherever I am at, a ton of units spawn and kill me before I have a chance to destroy any of the tanks.  Any tips you can give me to make this experience less deadly?

Get in the giant mech?  It's generally a good idea regardless of the circumstances.

I walked across the compound where you first find one in Dust and almost lost it, and there were only half as many things trying to kill me.

There are different kinds of mech in the game.  There's one nearby the 'northern' tank.  If you can't manage to finish the mission in that, you may as well just give up on the game.  It's a walk in the park.

In the Oasis residential or elsewhere?

Also, it's tanks.  The first northern wave has two of them.  Then on the final wave, there is another.

My apologies for having a slightly incorrect memory of a game I played in 2009.

Just watch this, it'll be easier all round.

The electricity gun(forgot its name) can kill units inside vehicles without damaging the vehicles. Grab the electricity gun and book it towards one of the tanks, zap it, and hop in the tank. Destroy everything in your path. That's one option, anyway.

Got anything non-video?  I have slow dial-up internet.

I now REALLY wish I had bought that instead of the grinder.

Run at the tanks and spam remote charges.  It only takes a few to kill each tank.
There is also a tank in the badlands main base.  You can try taking that.
If all else fails, you have a sledgehammer, an you could duel Thor himself with it.  A tank takes maybe 4-5 hits if my memory serves me.
Also, you can change difficulty mid firefight.  If you have to change that.

Personally I used either the nano-disintegrator or a rocket launcher on the tanks (if I wasn't in a mech).

Well, I beat the mission.  All I can say is: don't make me angry, because I play the game far better in that state, or when I am devoid of emotion.  You know, I find it ironic that in the Free-fire liberation, a majority of deaths will be from other drivers, rather than the artillery base.
