.....you're assuming we'll be using non-directional comms, which leak MUCH less noise into space, and it's not like we'll be using an active beacon that could be seen 2 systems away!

Speaking of which, is this all the people we'll be getting, or can we maybe expect to eventually receive more colonists?

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

Yeah, new colonists could happen. Besides, it's unlikely anything will be seen from multiple systems away.

Sure, several systems away are light years away, so radio is safe in that regard... but if any pirate ship, for whatever reason will enter our system (like to establish a secret base) I'd rather not glow on their radars

If a colony was destroyed, the central government would search the system, so attacking us would defeat the purpose of a secret base.  Radio silence would be easy to do by only having the receiver on, but the sender off unless it is being used, which would be rare due to the entire population being in one of two relatively close locations.

You got way to much confidence in the central governement. They got different things to take care of (I mean, the inner core alone contains more than 40 star systems. A million deaths is a statistic. A thousand deaths a rounding error.) The local governement might care, but those aren't really capable of handling the pirates.

Work on procuring fish tanks and try to find genetic information for any kind of aquatic creature I can.

"...Aha! The Aquatic Ape Hypothesis! ...Well, I'll look some more before relying on that."

If I can't find any aquatic creatures, try to find annelid or mollusk DNA or something. Use whatever DNA I could find and try to turn the creature into a tasty creature to grow and eat.

Much less faith and more along the lines of they'll send out a bounty to attract mercenaries to do so.  Cheaper and they don't have to waste resources.

Let's just say that the chance that the message of your destruction even reaches any of the core planets is small.

Meh, I still don't think pirates would take the chance.

Just some notes from Salvation.

-Pirates have openly attacked and conquered the assets of the MMC corporation, which operated on the outer fringe of the Core worlds. Local sector governement was unable to intervene succesfully, and the compagny had to hire mercenaries to secure their shipping
-A deadly page is terrorizing fringe and some core worlds, killing everyone. Alliance struggles to maintain a quarantine
-...

Turn Four

Spoiler: Actions (click to show/hide)

Work in the farms goes well, with no problems of note. The plants are slowly growing, and thanks to the sealed environement the changes of pest ect invading are limited.
On the other hand, the production of copper is fairly limited, as the sand endangered the operation, and walls had to be strengthened. Luckily, the existing supplies are large enough for the moment, and more metal is gathered from the wreck found earlier. Sadly, most of it is submerged in the sand, preventing you from accesing large parts of the ship.

The refinery is hard at work to reduce the enormous backlog created last month, but so far the supplies seem to be more than sufficient. Some of this copper is directly melted into larges bales of copper wire. Quite a lot of time is also spent analysing samples from other places in the desert. Cassiterite has been found in concentrated quantities, but from other ores you haven't managed to find a trace yet.

Lot's of construction stone is extracted from the quarry, further deepening it. By now, it's large enough to hold a significant part of the colony, and almost 20 meters deep.
The rest of the time is spend on improving the security of the colony, by filling up the holes in the walls, adding gateways, constructing bunkers and the like. Some question if all this is needed, and especially the railgun being constructed on a small ridge nearby worries some. However, it doesn't seem like it that that one'll be firing anytime soon. Communication networks have been constructed, both in the form of a physical intranet inside the colony, but also by the construction of small radio beacons around the colony and mine. Know you don't need to use the cargo ship for comms anymore.

Frederick Stumph and the Earl are still adamant about their plan to clone fish on a desert world, and have thus constructed a small set of bassins in an offshoot of one of the quarry branches, as well as having looked for more animal DNA sequences. Sadly, all that turns up is a small digital infonovel containing some codes, but sadly most incorect of incomplete.

All attempts to decrypt the found database have failed. The encryption algorithms don't manage any of the commonly used ones, and despite being rather old they are still rather good at resisting decryption. All attempts to bruteforce the mechanics have failed, as it appears that the encryption can be solved in a variety of ways which appear sensible to the computer, but are complete nonsense when looked at by a normal human.

Another thing of note is that the continuus power use has almost drained the Solar power plants build in batteries. A connection to the ship was made to prevent shortages, but it's simple and compact power cells were not meant to provide this amount of power for that long, and might run out or fail if used continually.

((Oh, and just a note. For some reason the cargo units used here don't match with those on Salvation. Just multiply everything times ten to get the Salvation's units.))

>Construct a small wall around the mine for usage in preventing sand from getting in it.
>Construct an ore dump site for the storage of ore at the mine between pick-ups.
>Construct a warehouse at the main site for storage of goods produced by the refinery.
>Increase the number of copper miners by 5.

We can probably back off on the copper production in order to save the Survivor's solar array and allow the colony's array to rebuild its stores.  Power production is still an issue.  Maybe we should see about excavating the hulk to see if it has a powerplant we can use to supplement our solar array.

Here are some names I propose for the bodies in our system:
  • Saeta for the planet we orbit
  • Sable for the desert moon we have settled on
  • Lympha for the aquatic planet
  • Rimboe for the jungle moon
  • Brandstof for the gas giant with harvestable fuel, its moons would just be numbered ex: Bradnstof I
  • Pelusa for the second gas giant, it's moons would also just be numbered ex: Pelusa I
  • Dor for the barren planet
  • Hielo for the asteroid moon with icy soil

We should consider sending the Survivor, the drone, and a small team (20 people or so) to Lympha to recover some water for our own use and to capture/study specimens of Lympha's native aquaculture in order to determine if there is anything to our benefit on Lympha.  The expedition should follow standard decontamination and quarantine protocols upon their return to Sable.

Assuming we have FTL communications capability, we should request help from the central government with decrypting/unlocking the database system and black-box recorders.  We can explain ourselves by saying we want to know any information on the database that may prove pertinent to the continued survival of our colony, that we also wish to re-use the database system for our colony's sensitive and critical information.  While we are in contact with the central government we should also request information on what weapons were/might have been used on Lympha and Rimboe.

I am not disagreeing with the Solar array point, but the only portion that is utilizing power is the refinement process.   We could reduce that to 50%, along with increasing the size of the solar power plants.  The miners would be busy preventing the build-up of sand in the mines, so there wouldn't be much of an increase in production.
