I'd prefer a catfish, large, doesn't require much food, builds muscle mass quick, and breeds quicker. That'll give us plenty of fish to eat.
Alright, how about cowfish? Same, but beefier.

Sure. The reason I say catfish is because they have a high tolerance for low oxygen and a large range of pH they can survive in. They're one of the heartiest species in the world. I've brought catfish home on ice and when they thawed out they were still alive.

That's impressive for the fish, but my character will probably make cowfish (presumably keeping the good aspects of the catfish while adding such things as size and taste from the cow). He's excited to be splicing together a multicellular organism.

I'm trying to keep this semi in synch with the other game. Sadly, that one seems to have a near zero interest nowadays...

Turn Three

Spoiler: Actions (click to show/hide)

Phralow decides to do some gengineering, and looks for the ship's genetical database. Unfortunately, he finds that the ship has none, meaning that he has to rely on his own small database of creatures of his homeworld, as well as what scraps of information he could find on the computer. He also tries to work on cloning some larger fish, whish is problemized with the lack of fish, water and cloning tubes.

Scavenging from the ship goes well. The outermost hull plates are removed, and can certainly be reused as scrap, and the insides are throuroughly looted. While the sand has destroyed most if, your group still manages to find a decent amount of electronics, including amonst others the main database and blackbox recorders, which are sadly encrypted.

Work on the copper mine goes faboulously well. A biocrete road is considered to be too expensive, but excavation of the ore deposit itself quickly starts, with biocrete reinforcing keeping out the sand.. The Biocrete proves to be a less usefull solution for the construction of a barracks, as the whipping wind causes the sand to move while it settles, which results in the building looking like it belonged in an impressionistic painting.

The metal refinery is activated, and has started to melt copper at maximum capacity. Sadly, it absolutely can't follow the high production of the mine. And quickly starts to lag behind.

Mining and fortification of the settlement go well, and as time progresses the wall around the settlement rises higher and higher, protecting the buildings from harm by the dangerous winds.

((Oh, and just a note. For some reason the cargo units used here don't match with those on Salvation. Just multiply everything times ten to get the Salvation's units.))

Lower the number of people mining to get an equilibrium with the production of the refinery.
Send the excess to dig out quarters into the rock near the entrance of the mine, for use until permanent surface buildings are established, and to be used for when some of the population moves underground.

50 people: farming
30 people: Copper ore mining
50 people: Metal Refinery
20 people: Take samples by digging deep shafts here and there (copper is nice... but other resources are needed, too.)
50 people: work at quarry, get construction stones
50 people: produce copper wire
50 people (including Maximilan Carter): Reinforce Habitation buildings and refinery with military grade platings and mined out stones. if Captain Darlon Garlik agrees he can assist in helping to make habitation buildings into improvised forts, by creating smart lines of fire and stuff like that

What about attempting to design windmills? We have copper, that means wiring, that means generator. We just need to find materials for the windmill itself

If we had more water we could make solar generators based on steam power... But not now...

Why should we build barracks or mine undeground housing if we do have  comfortable prefab habitation buildings already? Just upgrade them a bit.

Also, we don't need that barracks, we need a vehicle bay. Or bunker for the time when we will have guns...

I suggested the construction of the housing so there isn't a delay in having to transport the miners to the mine.  That would increase productivity while reducing strain upon the fuel supplies.

Also, the Military does need separate housing, and I envisioned that the barracks would be the start of a full military base for the colony that includes vehicle bays and training facilities, as well as defensive emplacements(too bad no weapons were found on the wreck).

Speaking of which, the militia continues to work on the barracks, making it look a little less wonky now that the wind impact is lessened a little by the wall, as well as establish squad quarters and equipment areas, and then start on vehicle bays for our APC and other vehicles that need protection and service. Also construct a short fence denoting the base perimeter out of copper/biocrete (doesn't need to be fancy or even keep people out really(for the moment at least), just denotes where the base is). As well, finish up the outer colony wall by establishing lookout posts and perimeter walkways so defensive patrols can patrol the wall. Use the copper and scavenged electronics to also establish a central com-link tower on the base and start manufacturing comm units to give to those out on patrol, and assign civilian comm techs. This tower can also be used for surface-to-space communications, as well as general colony communications, but there will always be several channels reserved for military use.

Edit: Thought of one other thing: if some of that scrap we got can be repurposed, I say using some more of the copper and it to kitbash together a coilgun artillery piece and build an emplacement for it on the bluff overlooking the colony for defense(powered by a small wind generator of course)

Edit Edit: Captian Garlik does agree though to help reinforce the civilian housing for OSHITLASTSTAND purposes, and will send a couple squads to help out in-between all the above

Do we need a dedicated military right now?
Do we need to waste copper for what is an useless fence?
Do we have any problems with communication to spend expensive electronics on that?

Having special housing for miners may be not a bad idea but what about their comfort? It's better to live in normal house with your family than spend your life undeground in shitty conditions Besides it's an easy transport scheme - ore to base, miners from base... Else transports that move ore will just go back empty. So no saving fuel here
And I think ore mine is pretty close

Why do we need a military?

Work on procuring fish tanks and try to find genetic information for any kind of aquatic creature I can.

"...Aha! The Aquatic Ape Hypothesis! ...Well, I'll look some more before relying on that."

If I can't find any aquatic creatures, try to find annelid or mollusk DNA or something. Use whatever DNA I could find and try to turn the creature into a tasty creature to grow and eat.

For protection! And for me to have something to do!(otherwise no point of being the captain in charge  :( )

Besides its not like the militia can't do other things when there's nothing to fight(we ARE acting tike an engineer corps atm if you didn't notice; that leaves more people free to do essential stuff by having us do the grunt work).

As for the comm tower, how is that NOT a good idea? people outside the colony(i.e. the dedicated mining base Zan wanted) can't exactly shout and be heard if something goes wrong, and I'm not sure what sort of comm system we have already so building a dedicated one should make that not an issue.

Also, if you guys are doing some more core sampling I can volunteer the APC for protection if you want

Protection from what?

Why not have them do that, and not work on making them an actual militia?

Fair point.
