Apparently, I wasn't quite clear last time.

During the war, this system was very thouroughly bombarded by the alliance, which then went on to win the war. For the next 80 years, it was locked down and placed under a militairy quarantine, officially because of the aftermatch of the explosives, and spilled bioweaponry. Some cleanup and stuff has been done, and hence it has been recently declassified and the forces moved to enforce another Quarantine in the inner sectors, where a virulent disease is threathening some systems.

((All Salvation backstory, btw))

So, no chance of preexisting settlements?

Little, barring a Deus ex plottwist or other recent colonists.

How?

Well, anywho, let me clean up my changes into one post.

1) Ok, since we aren't all that large, separate quarters for the Marines isn't necessary yet, so the barracks will be roughed out into a vehicle bay for the ground vehicles we have, along with maintenance storage and small quarters for workers needing a nap.

2) Take some of the copper, some stone, some of the salvaged electronics, and biocrete and construct a communications and sensor facility to centralize colony and military comms as well as detecting orbital craft. Make sure it is powerful enough to also be the primary ground-to-orbit comm facility.

3)Finish off the colony walls with guard posts and walkways for patrols

4)reinforce the living quarters of the colony with stone and biocrete, creating mini-bunkers

5)Pound the ground flat and make a biocrete slab near the vehicle bay to rough out a parade ground for drills and practice.

6)Take some more of the copper, melt down some of the salvaged scrap and steel, manufacture some large silicon capacitors, and design and build a large railgun capable of defending the colony against orbital threats. Design and build emplacement for it on ridge above colony, and run a power tap from the colony until alternate power source is found.

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

I'm going to place the actions of what I want to have happen at the mine here to help centralize the action posts.

>Lower the number of people mining to get an equilibrium with the production of the refinery.
>Send the excess to dig out exploratory shafts for deeper ores or to construct the following buildings at the copper mine:
1) a ore dump site to place the extracted ore until pick-up.
2) a minor wall to hold back sandstorms.
3) a radio tower that is only strong enough for contact with the main colony, with a local beacon for contact with the miners.
>Have some of the spare communications electronics after the construction of the towers be used to create portable radios for the miners.

Oh, and as an addendum, at some point before re-purposing the electronics, have any Marines/colonists with cryptography experience decrypt the mainframe and black box of the crashed ship, and if possible, store that data somewhere else before reusing everything

For me? Create large indoor ponds, three one foot high, two wide, and ten long. And two five feet deep, twenty feet long and ten wide. The shallower one for plants and the deeper ones for fish.

Hell no. That's equals to a big " Pirates, we are here" label

Use wired communication instead. It's much less visible

If you have, repost them anyway for the convenience of the GM.

Actually, the wireless nature of it, along with the size requirements of future technology (a lot smaller), means that this would be less visible.  Also, it would take time to set up a long enough wire, a project that would be more visible.  Besides the technological advances would be in wireless communications rather than wired.

Quick question: Does the setting have any sort of FTL comms? I might eventually work my way up to those(since it establishes contact with the central government), though if they're not present then thats a moot point.

Also, it wasn't clear, so did we also salvage any sort of power/propulsion unit from the wrecked ship? I also have plans for creating an intra-system runabout(mainly for scouting and resource exploitation purposes)

There are several sorts of FTL communication, most of which are based on spin off of the Jump drive technology. Both close range and long range variants exists, though they each have their own weaknesses. The short range systems are not very secure, are known to interfere with jumpdrive technology, but are fairly cheap as each jumpdrive can send and recieve messages, if provided with correct software.

Long range variants are more expensive, and often incorporate small jump drones in order to further the effective range.

Size? I am talking about  maintaining radio silence.  Active radio communication is way to easy to detect
