Saw-like fortress on adventurer mode?
« on: January 03, 2013, 04:29:41 pm »

Just asking, has anyone created a fortress which when played on adventurer mode is like a saw movie?

If not (and even so) then ideas for rooms here.

1) Upon entering the square stone room, the door shuts behind you. In the middle of the opposite wall lie vertical bars. Beyond these lie stairs. The ceiling is entirely made of hatches. There seem to be some creatures up there. To your left are some more vertical bars, but nothing is visible beyond these. Three levers lie to your right.

You pull the first. To your surprise, the vertical bars that lead to the stairs retract. But the temptation to know what the others do is too much. Upon pulling the second, there is a distant gurgling sound. Water slowly starts to fill the room. You know you can still escape up the stairs alive, so you reach for, and pull the final lever. Hundreds of cats fall from the ceiling.

My forts are generally more like this:

You see the only entrance to the fort, its  long tunnel. You carefully enter.

Suddenly something clicks and several sharp blades appear out of nowhere.
You try to dodge them but your arm is cut off.
It really hurts... You cannot stop the bleeding.

The constant movement of the blades forces you to go deeper. In fear you hear another clicking sound, this time a bit deeper in the walls.
OH GOD, the floor opens up and solid ground is too far away. The hole appearing beneath you is very dark and there seems to be no way to escape it.
You fall down into the seemingly endless hole.
As you hit the floor the pain becomes unbearable. You can barely make out the surroundings but in terror you see that there are parts of your body everywhere.

You die alone in a hole far away from your native land.

Dont fuck with the fort.

Thats somewhat like saw isnt it.

I tried , but i failed completely.

I build a 1 tile wide bridge over a magma pipe. In the middle of the bridge, there was a floodgate blocking pass until you pulled
a lever- Liberating a roc.

I wanted to make an epic battle , but when i visited the fort i saw that the cage was empty. (Abandon side effect)

I wil try this again in the new version, though.

In a hole in the ground there lived a dwarf. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a dwarf fortress, and that means magma.

I usually make pointlessly complex traps in my forts to explore in adventure mode. Such as a 4-tile wide hallway dotted with pressure plates that trigger a 10x10x10 cistern of pressurised water to pour in through the ceiling. The only way to escape the trap is to go through the cistern itself, which is refilled automatically from the river. And the river is full of alligators. Yeah. Have fun, adventurer!

Hard science is like a sword, and soft science is like fear. You can use both to equally powerful results, but even if your opponent disbelieve your stabs, they will still die.

Yes. In the fell Fortress of Hundredsequels, adventurer after adventurer walked around bored for 50 minutes before getting dismembered. Again. And. Again.
And it was all in 3D.
