You have obviously never attempted to produce music on linux.

I never implied that I ever used Linux for any music related? I said it had some very nice features when it came to software development. Also, I am saying that Linux is easy to use, it is just not that much harder to use than windows is, once you have gotten over the initial learning curve.
Perhaps you have never had the "pleasure" of trying to fix a windows installation once some stupid driver failed to work. I can tell you that your options are very limited compared to what the Linux community has to offer once you get into it.

Then again, I am not saying Linux, nor any OS is superior. Everything has upsides. I find Linux interesting when it comes to software development, which is what I do. OSX and windows might be better for creating music, I will never know because I have never, and will never, attempt to make any music myself.

really? Try giving some average guy on the street the objective of installing ArchLinux under 2 hours :P
Try giving your average guy 2 hours to set up a windows server 2008. Or a windows package without automatic driver installation. Or just an embedded windows distribution. I doubt they will have much more luck. Comparing a minimalist linux distro with a average windows is stupid. It is like comparing a car engine with a fully assembled car. As I said there are plenty of easy to use Linux distros.

Linux is not much harder than other OSes, it really only depends on workflow and what you want to do. You find Windows easy to use because you know how to do things. Linux is not that much different when it comes to it, some tasks are genuinely easier on Linux. I know, because I have used both for a long while now. But then again, there are things I really prefer to do on windows.

...
That said, windows 8 can go burn in a fire together with Ubuntu.

really? For most windows applications, all you would need to run is a exe file, for linux most of the time you would need to install libraries first before you can attempt to run the program. Its not that simple to drop programs you just downloaded from the internet, unpack and install. This includes all linuxes not just Arch, Mint, Ubuntu, SUSE. Example, running DF in linux requires sdl libraries to be installed, most distros dont have that installed and need to have modules loaded into the core system before you can run the game.

Wait...Isn't Android essentially a VM shell built atop a Linux kernel? Correct me if I'm wrong.

And with M$ trying to lock all other OSes out of IBM PC, I'd say that there are bigger fishes to fry for the Linux community than some spiffy smartphones. Linux is good for many but not all...At least not for certain laptops. The last time I checked, there were still few solution for the dual GPU arrangement on many newer notebooks that will make good use of the dedicated one, and the kernel was still having trouble with certain x86 CPU's multiplier stepping feature - or at least it was marked as deprecated in the makefile. My linux-fu is still not strong.

Or at least I wouldn't expect any average computer user nowadays to use Linux properly w/o scratching off a good amount of hair and something else. But it is true that a good frontend might change this, and Ubuntu has at least tried very hard towards that.
android basically runs on java virtual machine that runs on linux kernel.

I do not really see the problem. Most programs are installed through the package manager, which is how you install software in Linux.
Windows can also have the that problem. Sometimes you are missing a DLL, sometimes you are missing something else, which you need to go on the web and get.

Linux is different, you solve all dependencies automatically, but also install things differently than on Windows. This was a big problem for me to wrap my head around, but once I understood how to operate the system solving missing library problems on Linux is not harder than solving it on Windows.

Also, stop mentioning Arch, or I'll keep comparing all your arguments to running anything from a windows embedded system disc. It is for advanced users, and does not reflect how most people use Linux.

Only real problem I have with linux is that a lot of hardware is built for windows, and even when proprietary drivers are available for linux, it's often hard to find them and they don't come packaged, which is annoying.

That said, Linux makes a whole lot of day-to-day activities for me a ton easier than windows does. Lets be honest here, windows is a media delivery machine now, even more than it every was, especially in the newly mandatory Windows 8 (all previous versions have been discontinued and are no longer available, and won't even work on new computers, so talking about them is silly).

It's fine for entertaining myself, but Linux actually lets me get work done.

Yeah, I agree. It is a problem.
Especially graphics cards is a problem to get to work on Linux.

Of course, on a phone without peripherals, this is a LOT less of an issue.

But then, my reasons for using linux also don't really apply to a phone.

And I'm going to second the whole "Linux is already on phones, it's called Android" thing...

There are some integrated wifi in laptops/netbooks that expect to be turned on each reboot using a propietary part of their Windows driver (or some exe they provide). This, in effect, means you can't use it on pure Linux even if the Linux drivers work perfectly. And I know this, because it works if I dual boot into Windows, reboot without shutting down the computer and then switch to Linux :-/

Yep, some manufacturers are just jerks.

I didn't only mention arch, package managers do work nice if the programs are packed.
