Would it be easier to spur a little growth in the caverns?

It may be easier but it will need mana and time... We need a nice amount of mana for the tree. And we should start it as soon as possible, before Maher or Justicars interfere with the project, it's not something that can be done while attacked. And may take day or two to complete

Dwarves should hold few more days, especially with all that mayhem that Laksus and spores will create among goblins.

I do not understand the "We have money Mana, so SPEND IT ALL!" mentality. Let's just not throw any more creatures or plants around. We already have a lot. Remember that the other gods around work the same. If we can have this much mana from a small village in a short time, just imagine how many 0 the mana stock of older gods like maher can have. The tranquility guy too. If he's not throwing it around for stupid things, he is probably in the millions.

Also think about the poor GM bookkeeping this...

-Help Uristiel. One-time cavern growth, raids, and that's all. Discuss with him about what to do.
-Check on Ravenholt, solve the werewolf problem.
-Talk with the captured justicars
-Possibly improve the afterlife if you feel like it.

AND THAT'S ALL. My VETO on any new bull creature/plant/unnecessary boon. Please, we already got problems from those...

I do not understand the "We have money Mana, so SPEND IT ALL!"
Unspent resource equals to wasted resource Moneyana should work to generate interests. Large gods may allow themselves to stockpile, we can allow only temporary storage, to make large, important  mana projects with spend it all and squeeze every bit of power to get as good as possible. The whole point of saving mana was that

Agree with that, too many types of creatures is a bad idea. I am happy with the current mix. Maybe add some artillery unit and that's all

Also, I wouldn't get surprised that progression of Mana generation is not linear

I disagree. Unspent resource is not wasted. Wasted ressource (on awful projects) is wasted. Furthermore, proposed projects (besides Ravenholt and Uristiel related actions) are NOT getting us any mana.

How far do we need to go before it's "epic enough"?

Also if there is a sudden clash, the god with a big stockpile and just th necessary troops may have an advantage over the one with no stockpile and loads of unnecessary troops that get countered by divine wrath.

That depends. The more strong we become, the more epic things we should create.  In fact we created nothing expect some kind of troops, yet. Oh and afterlife. Something else is needed. Something that will improve our land not add minions. And we may have no chance to build anything magaprojectish when we will be at serious war.

I agree about no unnecesarry troops) But read the description of the tree. It will help us in any possible future combat ( especially against death gods)  and many civilian purposes. And it is a showcase of our power. It's not a unit. Oh and making such a tree will attract migrants, convert non-worshipers in our village

Also, I don't understand why you guys want to give dwarfs a free food? That will not open a trade route, that will only prolong the siege. Not something we want

If we don't spend mana on some project then just go, and rape that goblins with Firejackets, Dragon, Tiberius and our fire from the sky in one swift decisive battle

I want to repeat - we have quite a nice period, when we have relative safety, mana and no urgent and important things to do (we have some urgent and unimportant, but that's another story) It's a perfect chance to improve our capital.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
For recon I've been thinking floating flowers that those with a Life boon can use to see out of. Like UAVs, but biological.

As for greenskin converts, it's unlikely to happen. Grummugga being the only god of orcs shows a enormous amount of sway over their thoughts and feelings. As for the goblins, if the don't follow Grum they have their own god or goddess.

If they do convert, tell them to kneel down, throw their weapons out of reach, and cross their arms across their chest. They'll hold that position until the battle is over. Then Tiberious and Laskus can round them up and we can figure out how to tell how honestly they converted.

As for the Justicars we captured, if we have time we should check in and see how they're doing. Ask them about their god, try to make it clear that we don't bear them any ill will, we simply defended our people. Perhaps put a minor enchantment to see if their god shows up so we can talk to him. After all, we don't want to be enemies, this was a misunderstanding. If he's worried about his control over magi, we'd be happy to take them off his hands.

Ravenholt should be saved as well. We need to check on the situation there, though. We have much to deal with right now and we need to judge how pressing each issue is. The siege can probably wait a bit. Uristiel told us supplies were running low, not out. We should have at least a day left before any problems arise on that front.

"Now calm down," Tiberius said soothingly, his manner belied somewhat by his appearance. "Now tell me what happened."
The man looked behind him, his eyes frantic. "First a monster attacked, I can't remember how many days ago - it killed some of us, and just bit others." He shuddered. "Then it left, and soon after the ones he bit began to change. First just their behavior, hungrier and more capricious - and then their form started to change. We tried tying them up, we begged Maher to help us but-"
"But he just laughed," the woman said tonelessly. "And said something about the rules of the game disallowing him to directly affect pawns the enemy had turned."
"We're the only ones who made it out," the man said, his eyes flicking nervously to the woman's arm. "We renounce Maher, just get us somewhere safe, please!"

Tiberius sighed. "My Lord?" he asked you privately, awaiting instructions.
"Keep them there," you told him. "For the time being, at least, while I take a look for myself what has become of Ravenholt."

You travel there swiftly, and find the once-mighty village a smoking ruin. The temple of Maher is shattered, claw marks in every block of marble. As you watch, three dozen creatures prowl around it restlessly. Their appearence a strange halfway point between human form and Laksus's beast form, they also seem to lack the spines that protrude from Laksus's forearms when transformed.
You attempt to contact one, but it pays no attention. Fortunately for your villagers, the creatures seem to be intent on staying put, at least for the time being.

You contact Tiberius, and instruct him to escort the two to an isolated part of the village, to be kept under observation - at least for the time being. You also give orders for ample food and drink to be provided for them.

Checking up on Minas Iroh, things seem to be going smoothly - Lara continues healing, whilst Eldrick busily transforms Stems into Saps. His Life Skill has increased from all the practice.

The justicars you captured - well, justicar now, singular since you neglected to provide medical treatment for his mortally-wounded fellow - are being held in a cage woven from thorn-vines clipped off the wall, a constant stream of water sluicing over him and dispelling any magic he might attempt.
"Are you afraid," you ask, speaking through the Stems guarding the cage - a dozen voices in different pitches, discordant yet somehow melodious at the same time.
"Fear is removed from us quite early on," the justicar replied calmly. "How about pain," you inquire, your tone politely curious.
"Torture me if you like," the man invited, his face blank. "I know nothing my master fears being made known."
"You poor thing," you murmur, your presence circling the cage. "Your master thinks the chaos inherant in every soul can be surpressed, domesticated. But I can see the pressure building behind those eyes - to kill, to mate, to build, to tear down, to create, to destroy, to corrupt and to heal...it's driving you slowly mad, isn't it."
The justicar's jaw clenched.
"I could free you," you promise. "In mind, body, and soul - no more stone walls in your thoughts, behind which chaos twists itself into infinitely darker forms than in the light of day."
"My master is coming for you," the justicar asserted. "So I would not waste your time on a will strong enough to repel a thousand years of your honeyed words, demon. Have you not wondered why there are so few Chaos Gods left?"
"Simple - they weren't me," you chuckle, and leave the man to his prisons.

In the blink of an eye, you travel to Laksus to see how things fare in the dwarven siege. Strangely, he's tucked away in the upper branches of a tree overlooking a cliffside path. You understand his purpose there a minute later when a orc wagon laden with supplies rumbles into view - with only three guards. You see torchlight glimmer off Laksus's teeth as he plunges down onto the first guard. Blood splatters the second guard's face, and he bellows a panicked alert before claws slash out to silence him forever. The third guard turned to run, but in a flash Laksus had him held up by one hand, morphing back to human form as he did so.
"Mercy," the orc choked.
"Oh, don't worry," Laksus told him. "Haven't you heard? Chaotic Evil doesn't kill - we recruit." The other two orcs rose behind him as fungus spawn, and Laksus threw him to them with a grin, spores glimmering under his nails where they had adorned his claws.

"I see things are progressing nicely," you observe.
"Beautifully," Laksus replied, the shambling forms of dozens upon dozens of fungus spawn coming out of the darkness behind him. "They haven't received untainted supplies since I arrived."
"Excellent - be ready to support a full attack. I may send an army tomorrow," you instruct.
"As you wish," Laksus murmured, slinking back into the shadows with his horde of creeping horrors.

You visit the dwarves themselves, and find them to be in a sorry state - out of beer.
"Hello Uristiel," you greet their deity. "How fares the siege?"
"Haven' done a full-on charge for a'while," Uristiel growled. "Good thing too, my dwarves be lousy shots when suffin' from beer deprivation. Funny thing, the greenies were attacking each other a few hours ago, right after supper."
"Odd," you reply innocently. "But I think I can help with the beer crisis."

You pour a burst of Life energy into the slow-growing underground crops the dwarves tended, coaxing an early harvest out of three entire fields. However, the hastened growth is a little botched, it won't last longer than a day.
(1d20 : 3 + LifeSkill(4) = 7)
-20 Mana

The stunned dwarven farmers froze for a moment before rushing to the stills, hurridly brewing new batches of ale and beer.
"Ye didn't have to do that," Uristiel muttered, sounding equal parts grateful and surprised.
"That's what good neighbors are for," you murmur in reply, and Uristiel bursts out laughing. "Aye, if only more neighbors were as good," he rumbled. "I owe you one, laddie."

You return back home, with one final thing on the agenda - a mate for Brunikaar, your Gold Dragon.
Life, Fire, and Chaos swirl together as you pour mana from your quite plentiful pool of power into the working, the energy slowly taking on the form of the creature. With a sudden implosion of power, the creature solidifies into being with a roar, burning down a half-dozen trees before you can calm her down. Brunikaar flies in, his head cocked to one side in interest, and you introduce the two.
-110 Mana

It is now an hour after midnight.

We seemed a bit darker in that update. :-\

Ah well. Tell whoever's guarding the prisoner to treat him adequately. We can't do much about discomfort caused by the water and the bondage but we should be able to easily quel any tummy rumblings. No cause to be cruel, just efficient. If he becomes a problem he dies swiftly.

We've helped Uristiel. Keep a contact up with him, and plan a assault within the next week or so. Make sure it doesn't conflict with the Feast we have planned with Krait, including travel time to both areas.

So Ravenholt is completely gone. Damn. And we have new monsters roaming, that we created. Double damn. So much for our reputation as a fairly benevolent if brutally effective combatant. At least Maher is slightly weakened by losing a minor town. I'm surprised he took it so gracefully. He's a large amount of power at his disposal, for sure.

I doubt Maher plans an attack, but if he does he plans it in tandem with the Order God. He'll likely strike during or quickly after we're depleted fighting Order. We need something to shock him, something he won't expect. I'll leave it up to our more bloodthirsty DEMOCROBRAIN-2000 members to figure out what, exactly, Maher wouldn't be defended against. Maybe a alliance with Uristiel.

I like the Tree idea, though it sound expensive it could be a boon to us and wouldn't clutter our military like the default ships in GalCiv II. A eternal flame would also be nice, and breed constant new generations of Firejackets.

Make a set of shackles for Laskus. The next time an orc begs him for mercy, have him taken prisoner and escorted back to the village by Fungus Spawn. I have some tests I'd like to run and some things I'd like to learn. An Orc should be able to tell us much about Grummugga, probably more than she wishes known to us, he'll be grateful we spared his life, possibly converting, and we should be able to see a glimpse of culture by way of how he handles himself. Know thy enemy like you know thyself.

We seemed a bit darker in that update. :-\

...
I don't see this darkness. we haven't tortured or even threated with torture. which is something I wouldn't put beyond us in times of great crisis.
We seemed to be curious about the justicar, and we truly pity the shell of potential. A trapped man.

....

We've helped Uristiel. Keep a contact up with him, and plan a assault within the next week or so. Make sure it doesn't conflict with the Feast we have planned with Krait, including travel time to both areas.

...

Indeed putting off the feast AGAIN. (eventhough it was mutual last time) is very poor form.
before we send in a relief force(if we even can) we should talk about it with Uristiel. also inform him that we have laksus running some interference in the siegeing ranks... mention that we really don't want to lose a neighbour and valuable trading partner.

...

So Ravenholt is completely gone. Damn. And we have new monsters roaming, that we created. Double damn. So much for our reputation as a fairly benevolent if brutally effective combatant. At least Maher is slightly weakened by losing a minor town. I'm surprised he took it so gracefully. He's a large amount of power at his disposal, for sure.

...
well first off... lets try and put a handle on Laksus's ability to create new werewolves, if hes going to use it. it will be because we wished it. we need to way to turn his ability on and off, if that is impossible we should remove the abilty all together.

it is the least we can do as punishment. Sending him to clean up the werewolve mess... well... he might just enjoy that a little toomuch.
hmm... if he can controll his new kin then its not ALL bad... we just have to try and also limit those new wolves multiplication abilities.

also, I'm torn between telling the truth or not.
we're a chaos god, we take chances and with those chances come mistakes. its part of us, But on the other hand... mortals look up to us, perhaps even as a sign of perfection, if perfection can make mistakes that could severly hurt the faith the morals place in us.

my gut says we should come clean and apologise to the two survivors, they are not a threat to us. and I think building a web of lies will only entangle ourselves sooner or later.

...

I like the Tree idea,...
I like it aswell, it would be a more modest version of the one we have in our afterlife... maybe even somehow linked with the one in our afterlife. a place to where mortals can try and commune with the ones they have lost?

...

Make a set of shackles for Laskus. The next time an orc begs him for mercy, have him taken prisoner and escorted back to the village by Fungus Spawn. Know thy enemy like you know thyself.
I am opposed to willfully taking prisoners. I would even go as far as to try and use chaos to sever the tie between the captured justicars and his boons. and to set him free.

No prison we could ever build would be as bad as his god has already put him in. We should truly pity the man...

so yeah... remove his fangs. and set him free?

I don't expect him to be a prisoner for long, and we'd treat him well enough while he is. We need information, and information can't be gotten entirely from corpses and flowers. The Orc, that is, not the Justicar.

As for setting the Justicar free, I'm unsure if that would be wise. We might be able to turn him yet. But trying to sever his boons from him is probably a good idea.

"My master is coming for you," the justicar asserted. "So I would not waste your time on a will strong enough to repel a thousand years of your honeyed words, demon. Have you not wondered why there are so few Chaos Gods left?"

Hmm, so he basically said there are so few Chaos Gods left, because of his Master. I think we should check it - gather information about tranquil empire and chaos gods.(not from justicar) Its good to know more about history, because we don’t want to repeat it.

My theory is that most of the Chaos gods were not so good as Donut and more like classical "More blood for the blood god!" type. So mortals become tired of that and started to worship Order gods to fight chaos. And that’s how Tranquil empire was born. So that excess hatred against uncontrollable things (even if they harmless) is based on past and not appeared out of nothing. I think that this god of tranquil empire was actually good in the start, maybe even some sort of savior against endless hordes of Chaos, but right now he is more like knight-templar and despot who thinks that he can use mind control and kill children for greater good. Humans usually don’t like so oppressive rulers or death of their children’s, so his empire can be destroyed from the inside. We don’t even need to send armies against him but instead can try to convert some of his followers. Doing so we will return balance between order and chaos in the world.  Though Order god will try to kill all "traitors" and use his inquisition to deal with any heresy, so this wouldn’t be easy.
Everything above is just my speculations, and anyway liberation of the tranquil empire from this god is long-term plan, so lets focus on current situation.

Laksus is building little army out of orcs army and Donut said to him that

"Excellent - be ready to support a full attack. I may send an army tomorrow," you instruct.

also this:
However, the hastened growth is a little botched, it won't last longer than a day.
(1d20 : 3 + LifeSkill(4) = 7)

1) I think that we should attack greenskins tomorrow and don’t send Laksus somewhere else before that. Then we will have one problem less and one ally more.
2) Then we can grant were-controlling power to Laksus and turn were-infection power off, and send him to clean his mess.
3) We can make trade agreement with Uristiel and give him that permanent food source in exchange for his help. And we can use it for a lot of things mentioned earlier: manarack, metals, artifacts, buildings(walls, towers, obelisks - dwarfs are good at megastructures) our economy, mana income and defensive strength can be greatly improved by this alliance. This is much better than selling some overpriced food to him. If anyone thinks that Uristiel will easily forgot our help if he no longer need us, we can make those food source also have little mana upkeep, so we can easily wither those plants or turn them against dwarfs if we want or just point that we still helping him if we need some help in future. I personally think that we can trust Uristiel and don’t use such tricks.
4) After that we can prepare for feast and empire attack without any problems. Also i am sure that Maher prepared some fun surprise for us. Surprise for us, fun for Maher.
5) Maybe look for information about empire and chaos gods.

...

I think us sending a relief force should really first be offered to Uristiel. he is a war god, he might not appreciatie our intrusion in his battle.
we're already meddling a little with Laksus, but I think we can explain that along the lines of, its what Laksus does and what makes him happy. its also pretty minor. The battle is still Uristiels to win. Laksus is just... being Laksus.

If Uristiels would apreciate us breaking the siege, then lets make plans to make it happen, but only if our intervention is apreciated!

...
3) We can make trade agreement with Uristiel and give him that permanent food source in exchange for his help. I agree that we shouldnt just 'give' a permanent solution to his food problem, We'll help him out with a temporary boost and can do another one if he asks for it.

if we do at some point want to trade some more permanent help with his food, it should be for something 'real' so no 'I owe you ones'.

this also makes me wonder about sharing followers... It would be cool if dwarven farmers could pay their respects to us even if Uristiel is still their 'primary god', and ofcourse vise versa... if our followers would want to pay respects to some of uristiels aspects could they do so without renouncing us?

in the long term? could we become a sort of pantheon?

...
5) Maybe look for information about empire and chaos gods.
...
Yes, when we're not preoccupied. We can ask Krait during the feast... we really need to get that sorted =( but the life of a benevolent god is filled with ever present matters.

I agree with first exposing our plan to Uristiel to get his agreement, then doing it.
Maybe not a permanent food source to Uristiel, a trade is better for now.
Do not forget the feast. ask Krait for informations.
Find a way to control and tame the werewolves. Make them more and more human in mind as time pass. The old trope of "young=feral, old=wise" for werewolves&vampires.

I don't think Maher would ally to our evil twin. More probably stay neutral.
Hopefully by the time He arrives (he surely have more pressing matters than a couple of childrens and a small group of templars being killed...) we will have a strong alliance with several gods. Then we all combine our powers and throw a legio titanicus (several huge chaos dreadnoughts). (Chaos+Fire+Life+Snakes+Air+Earth+War+Creation+Manarack+Adamantium=AWESOMENESS OVER 9000.)

For people wanting to make all kinds of things: This is a long term, very long term idea. Not something to do within the year...

We have an advantage in allying Maher: Krait, who has said he'd stand with us in case of a Tranquility attack (which doubtless sounds odd out of context).

Anyways, I support chatting with Uristiel before doing anything except maybe explaining the infighting.
I suggest (or support or whatever) that we integrate the Ravenholt survivors into our village after telling them that the disaster was an unforseen consequence of an action in our younger, more foolish days, which we now greatly regret. Also see what we can do about giving Laskus control or at least influence over the weres (if this fails, he can always use the "I am your father, your creator!" card, and if that fails there's always the "I could probably kick any three of your tails at once with one hand tied behind my back" thing.), and turning of his infectiousness. Should the werecontrol work, with Uristiel's permission turn a few goblins.
I am also against any permanent solutions to Uristiel's food problem, and for creating an everburning flame tree of some sort to connect to the Afterlife as well as provide a constant source of heat and light. And attract visitors.

Are you a GM with players who haven't posted? TheDelinquent Players Help will have Bay12 give you an action!
[GreatWyrmGold] gets a little crown. May it forever be his mark of Cain; let no one argue pointless subjects with him lest they receive the same.

Yeah spore launchers are basically what I meant, I'm just tired.  Anyway I still think beetles would be cool too.  They can fly and have a ranged attack.  Maybe instead of fire, have them spit acid just to mix things up.  Hmm in retrospect fire and life was an interesting combination to pick for our God.  I feel like we have to worry about friendly fire a lot (no pun intended).  Still can't argue with the cool golem and dragon thing we've got going.

I think the lie core of our army should be Gold Dragons and Chaos Golems, supported by hordes of Plant-people and Fungus zombies.

Things which earn us money should only be used in warfare as a last resort.
