Don't send Laskus to kill 100 orcs on his own. At the least, send Tiberius with him. Good bonding experience.
Straight on fight yes he die, but if he jump in, kill one and run off before they can respond then do it again when he see a opening, he will delay the ritual until we arrive. If one get a lucky hit he can hide and heal then reappear and kill the orc who did it so they don't get any ideas.

You're assuming that the orcs don't prepare themselves for Laskus coming after the first dozen or so down, and my reply was based on the idea of trying to kill all 100 (not just disrupt the ceremony, which I too would prefer).

In the game I mentioned earlier, the wizard tower plants grew almost exclusively in Ashland regions with lava nearby.  Granted I guess it might be considered a bit unrealistic but hey that's a fantasy universe and so is this.  Also on a more realistic note plants love growing near volcanoes because of the large amount of nutrients contained within the soil.  They just tend to die out when an eruption occurs before regrowing from scratch after some time has passed with the soil's nutrients refreshed.
Well, there's a difference between "volcanic soils" and "moat of lava," no?

Make a breeding pair of flame drakes and giant web-spiders. Also, I think we should have plant-insect hybrid spec-ops style that specialize in infiltration and long-range support once we get our main army up and running. Also, to add on to Rolepgeeks idea; I believe we should have a hive-mind with our plant soldiers but combine this with a individual intelligence so they can make decision on their own. Then, combine this with the ability to adapt and change to new challenges we got quite a efficient and unpredictable army.

The moat doesn't have to be right on top of the tower.  Of course we would leave some distance.

I know I just joined now and everything, but I think that making lots of unecessary creatures is just that.

I think we should be focusing on helping, and therefore converting, more people to our cause. Our current array of mystical creatures is more than adequate for that task. For example, we could provide a safe environment for refugees (like the ones that have already come) from the Empire of Tranquility, mostly because many refugees from there will likely be capable of using magic, which is greatly to our benefit.

Yes, wait until problems happen then we make the creatures instead of wasting mana on things that may or may not help.

"Sounds good, I look forward to it," you tell Krait.

To Laksus, you murmur back, "Your first priority is to extract the humans. If that is not possible, delay and disrupt the ritual until reinforcements arrive. Using any means necessary." You chuckle. "Have fun."
"Excellent, my Lord," Laksus replied. "The ritual will not be allowed to proceed."

You send your will out into the morning air, and the firejackets rose into the sky in an angry swarm, before darting off into the distance, toward's Laksus's location. Fungus Spawn lurched out of the corrupted forest and followed them, untiring and surprisingly swift.

"Something amiss?" Krait inquired, noticing the troop movements. "A disagreement with some orcs," you explain.
"Oho, the legions of green stupidity eh? I've clashed with Grumugga before myself, she's not very fond of me. Or my landscape design skills." His presence began to drift away towards his own village. "See you at the feast," he called back before vanishing.

You quickly travel to Laksus's location, and spot him stealthily sneaking into the orc camp. Most of the orcs seemed drunk on some foul-smelling intoxicant, and were having some pre-ritual celebration of some kind. As you watch, Laksus reaches a pair of large, guarded tents.

The orc guarding them had only the time to widen his eyes before Laksus leaped behind him, snapping his neck in one smooth motion, and dragged him inside silently. One child, two women, and a man were tied up inside, looking at Laksus with uncertain hope as he unceremonously dumped the orc corpse on the ground.

Laksus put a finger to his lips, then produced a wickedly sharp, inwardly bending knife and proceeded to begin cutting the prisoners loose. Then he paced to the rear of the tent and slowly sliced an opening into it. He looked through it, and saw a short, almost empty of orcs, route to exit the camp from there. "Ok, listen up," he said. "I'm going to sneak you out the back, but if someone sees us, don't freeze up, don't hesitate, run. In that direction," he said, pointing in the direction of Minas Iroh.

The prisoners nodded, fear on many of their faces, and one of them whispered, "Thank you," Laksus rolled his eyes. "Don't mention it. Now follow me, stay low, walk quietly."

He began to slowly lead the lines of prisoners out, making fairly good progress - until yells could be heard from the tent they just vacated, and an orc charged through the hole in the back of the tent.
Laksus swore, and threw his knife into the orc's throat. The orc dropped to it's knees, dying with a panicked gurgle, and Laksus gave the nearest prisoner a push. "Run," he hissed. "Stealth is no longer an option."

Moving forward to pluck his knife from the dead orc, he drew his other kukri as well, holding them reverse-gripped as was his style, and stalked towards the horde of onrushing orcs with a grin on his face.

He ducked under the first orc's clumsy stab with a spear, one kukri diving in to pierce the orc's heart as another turned aside a stroke from a second orc's shortsword. An arrow whistled in and sank in Laksus's chest, promoting a gleeful snort from the archer. Laksus raised an eyebrow at the orc and ripped out the arrow, the flesh knitting back together in under two seconds. "That almost tickled," he drawled, and strode forward towards the ever-growing crowd of orcs with murder in his eyes.

The escaping prisoners were swiftly forgotten in the incipient bloodbath. Thirty dead orcs later, Laksus held up his hands, dropping his knives as the orcs surrounded him. "I surrender," he drawled. "Remember, you need someone alive for the ritual," he said mildly, plucking out one of a dozen arrows portruding from him and starting on the rest.
There was a hush as the local orc chieften stepped forward from the ranks of orcs.

"Bring rope!" he bellowed, and orcs scurried off to get it. Laksus meanwhile pulled out the last of the arrows, tapping one foot impatiently. The orcs returned with the rope, and Laksus was quickly bound and escorted to the alter.

The orc chieften hefted a sacrificial knife, and began to sing praises to Grumugga, echoed by the crowd of the surviving orcs. The praises were so loud in fact, that nobody noticed the lurching horrors surrounding by faint clouds of spores until the screaming started. The situation devolved rapidly from there, as dozens upon dozens of firejackets burst through tents, starting a hundred fires scattered around the camp in the opening moments of the attack.

The orc chieften stared in bewilderment, then remembered Laksus and turned to the altar, his knife raised. "Well," Laksus said to him with a smirk. "That would be my cue." Muscles bulged and ropes snapped as he shifted smoothly into his beast form and tore the chieften's throat out.

Laksus leaps onto a nearby tent - pretty much the only one not on fire by this point - and spots a cluster of orcs who had managed to assemble a decent formation against the rapidly-multiplying horde of Fungus Spawn. He raised an arm, and with a slashing motion sends a dozen explosive spines sailing into the heart of the formation. The resulting explosions tore apart the orcs immediately near it, blasted the front ranks into the eager arms of the Fungus Spawn, and sent the survivors fleeing for their lives.

Laksus jumped off the tent in pursuit of the orcs trying to flee the battle, a gleeful snarl ripping through the air.

By this point most of the combatants in the camp were Fungus Spawn, so you send an order to them to withdraw before the fire begins to claim them as well. The few orcs remaining in the camp passed out from the smoke within the next minute, and the firejackets swarmed them mercilessly.

You found Laksus, covered in blood, looting the mangled corpses of the orcs that fled, whistling a merry tune. Abruptly Grumugga's voice rings out, directed to Laksus. "You!" she bellowed. "Do not think Grumugga has forgotten the face of he who dared to smash my Mud Golems. And now I find you doing this! Tell Maher that he has crossed a line, "
she proclaimed dramatically, "And that his puny undead will be smashed by mighty orc fists!"

With that, she vanished. Laksus chortled. "How was that, my Lord?" he asked. "I am well pleased," you tell him with an evil chuckle. "The ranks of the Fungus Spawn have doubled, the prisoners escaped unharmed, and I suspect the firejackets will come back from that inferno with increased numbers as well."
Laksus grinned. "And Maher is blamed."

Make a breeding pair of flame drakes and giant web-spiders.

Returning to the village, you note with satisfaction that the first crop of plant-soldiers have been harvested, bringing their numbers up to 26. With around 25 seeds from each new plant-soldier, the villagers have more than enough now to seed the entire field, although each plant-soldier requires quite a lot of room to grow so only 75 can be planted at once.

Turning your attention to the flamedrake and giant web-spider, you decide to make a mate for each.
Since the templates already exists, the process is very straightforward and costs you only 30 mana for both combined. The female web-spider promptly lays an enormous egg-sack - and you realize abruptly that you're going to need a food source for them.

An hour after that, the freed prisoners reach the village, and are reunited with their families who expected they'd never see them again. Every one of them declares their faith for you on the spot.

Food source? Easy, create one last creature from some rabbits, they'll breed just as fast as the spiders can eat them. Now, no more creatures. We have an entire ecosystem now.

I suggest we make something from a fly to feed the spiders. Close to their natural prey, feed on refuse, and fast-reproducing.

Then we work on improving our town.

Why no more creatures?

As for food, why make a separate food source for each? The bluemelons are keyed to humans dietary requirements; let's just shift them around a bit. Make it so there are a certain number of leaves as it grows, and plucking certain ones up or down means it changes to fit different dietary needs, texture needs, etc. Maybe even make it so they actually have some be animals that get off the vine for the Drakes and Webbers to hunt.

And now...we BURN The Trees have served us well. Instruct them to move out of the ring they previously occupied, forming a super dense layer around the edges. Now, burn all the vegetation that was in the ring; slash and burn means the ash will fertilize crops well. The wilderness may be chaos, but we need room for our growing armies...Just an idea, though.

Why no more creatures?

The villagers may like us now, but they probably don't like giant spiders, and other monstrosities which are now commonplace around their village. Eventually, they'll reach their limit. In addition, we don't NEED anymore, we have an army of humanoids, two sources of income, and drakes. What else do we need?

If anything, make a food source for the spiders, but I think Rolepgeek's idea is better, just modifying the plant slightly so that it can feed multiple species.
