This Child... HE'S A GENIUS!

Welcome to Fucking Moralink. Here we have shitty food, shitty beds, shitty drink, but, we have a FINE bridge! Some children here are possessed. They all either die or make something usele-- BUT WHAT'S THIS!? A child made a bone pick!
This is a Horse Bone Pick. All craftdwarfship is of the highest quality. It is encircled with bands of horse bone. This object is adorned with hanging rings of horse bone and menaces with giant spikes of crow bone and microcline. On the item is an image of baguette cut gems in reindeer leather. On the item is an image of a mink man in iron.

Welp, you're lucky that dwarfling decided to go on the forger's path in lieu of the crafters path. I tell you, 99.99% of most dwarf children in Cunningcopper decide to go craftshop or bust. And the latter ends with a hail of pig bone bolts the poor fella's way.

Just curious, do you have a crafstdwarf's shop? I mean like any built in your establishment. I'd like to replicate that, or at least have a better chance at it. I ought to have 180% of my bone bolts quota done soon.

Actually, He made it AT the craftdwarf's shop! I build two of these, because I always have stone crafts being produced at one, and, as you said, 99% of the time, a dwarf will claim a craft's shop. So the other one is really just for fey mods/possession.

Speaking of the extra shop, just had a dwarf taken by a fey mood. Guess what he claimed... This dwarf says he has an amazing idea, but uh... It'll probably be useless.

Children always produce artifacts from the crafting disciplines unless you've cheated to give them some other skill. In this case be glad it's a semi-useful item instead of a craft.

A dwarf will mood into their highest trained moodable skill. If they have none trained, as in the case of a child, it will be one of the bone carver, stone crafter, or wood crafter skills. You can exploit this by making sure all dwarves are trained dabbling or higher in the skill you want (eg. armorer) besides any non-moodable jobs they perform. For instance, in my fortress I have all my farmers and haulers spend a little while making armor each year until they're up to novice. I have one forge set to repeat build armor with low value metals, the profile of which only permits dabbling level. Once a farmer moves to novice level they can't use the forge anymore so the task sits idle. This greatly increases the odds that a dwarf will enter a mood to create a useful profession instead of another wood crafter.

Dang. . That's a hardcore child there. Of course just hearing the word pick pops up the forge in mind, but I overlooked the word "bone". Nice one! One more carver for the bone munitions worker party eh?

Sometimes dwarves in craft moods make furniture or other useful things (jury's out on the pick, as it may not be touched by a civilian and makes a poor combat weapon. Would make for a pretty nice trap centrepiece though). It's probably not worth savescumming over, as given the sheer number of useless items you'll probably keep getting one of those. Also, odds are that the resulting artifact will be of a low base value. Wood is only ever worth 1, and the vast majority of bone is worth 3 or less. Stone is more promising, as you'll probably have some decent ores lying around.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.
