Making custom race use bows in fortress mode?

Yep, no matter what i do my dark elves refuse to pick up the nicely made bone darkbows and instead just continue to spar, even though i have more wooden arrows than anyone would need.

Is there any way i can get them to pick the bows up and use them? Or will i have to edit the raws and make bows temporarily crossbows for my game?

Fortress mode can only have units use crossbows. It sucks, but thats it.

You can make the bows technically crossbows, with different names for ammo and the weapon. Thats all you can do now.

Alright thanks, guess ill just edit the raws quickly then!

Something to add to the readme for when i decide to release this version of chaos reigns   :D

Kind of annoying, but fixable i suppose

And it's not that bad.
As soon as you have marksmen/marksdwarves/markselves/marksanything it doesn't tell you anything about weapon they use, just that it's ranged. So you can freely consider "crossbows" as "ranged".
