I'm a bit skeptical whether bows would do much to zombies, though - most arrows lack the mass to break a spine or obliterate brains. Puncturing internal organs isn't much of a problem for zeds. I guess it depends on the mechanism of reanimation.

I got a really interesting and nice "locked in a lab" start. I actualy managed to escape the lab since I got very lucky and a random npc spawned with a sledgehammer, close to me. After killing him and taking the sledgehammer, and a lot of time spent dodging robots and finding my way up to the first floor. I actualy managed to get to the entrance room. Luckyly it was night so it was just dark enough so the turret in the main halway didn't make swiss cheese out of me, and with some clever wall sledgehammering, I broke free.
Now I'm wandering about with some fun mutations + robust genetics and 18 strenght and 14 intelligence, just surviving and reading books till I can delve back into the lab for some interesting recipes.

Isn't the point of the lab start to not get lucky and break out, but rather survive in the lab?

You would starve before too long. The point of lab is to have hard mode before breaking out.

You can live for moderatly extended periods of time in the lab. In particular, if you take the cannibal trait you can eat mutated legs/fetuses/arms without throwing up and they satiate for quite a bit. You then use royal jelly to counteract the health neg. Also, bottled water is plentiful.

*Edit*
This is assuming you don't have random NPCs on. They do spawn in labs so if you have random NPCs on you can just hunt them for food.

I thought skeletons were old corpses who had the plot point seep in and rose from their graves.

Nah, it's actually a lore point that things that died prior to infection can't be raised (which is why you see dead drug dealer corpses, etc. still lying around).

I always pictured skeletons with a thin coating of stuff to hold them together and provide mobility, but not enough to form a more complex organ system. Though now I'm not sure how that would work, canonically and all.

And then, they will be weaponized. Like everything in this game, from kittens to babies, everything is a potential device of murder.
So if baseless speculation is all we have, we might as well treat it like fact.
