in my own headcannon

Is there a headcannon (like the headguns in The Diamond Age) CBM?  There should be.
I think there's an xkcd for this.

What are we, German? A skulgun is a terrible idea.

Just think of the migraines from the recoil.

Um, I have a question. I thought braziers contained fire but apparently they don't because my entire base just burnt down even though I set a fire in the brazier. What happened?

Maybe all the smoke made you panic and move something which actually caused the fire?

Or it might only contain small fires.

Or it could be bugged.

Yeaaaah, I'm still not entirely sure on when exactly Cata zombies get KO'd... realistically, anyway. I know esploding their heads is probably enough to put them down, but if you just, say, hacked at their upper bodies with a machete or slammed them repeatedly with a baseball bat, how much would you have to do in order to actually make them stop moving?

I lean toward the idea that "anything that kills a human kills a zombie," with the only big difference being that zombies don't feel pain, so what would be considered a mortal wound to a normal person, they would shrug off and keep on trucking through until they bleed out.

I mean, I'm pretty sure a Cata zombie is capable of bleeding out (though the game doesn't apply bleed effects to them, probably for simplicity's sake). Just considering the amount of blood that appears in-game when you kill zeds, I'm going to assume that they still use blood to transport oxygen to fuel their muscles like a living human would.

If this logic is correct, bladed weapons would be best against zombies, for their ability to cause massive wounds. Blunt and piercing weapons would be mostly ineffective hitting anywhere other than the head, but blunt weapons would have the advantage over piercing for being able to easily break bones and render the zombie helpless.
Except zombies take no damage from "Bleeding" effects, do not breathe, and let us not neglect that Spitter, Boomers, and skeletons are a thing, none of which retain any "blood" as we know it.
When taking out a zombie, you do so by breaking bones, cutting tendons, and slashing muscles. Brain damage still does something, butmnot as much as most would suspect.

The skeleton example is a good point, but if zombies have no use for their blood, then:
1) Why do they still have so much of it
2) Why do they have the WARM tag, which allows them to be seen with infared
I mean, if they're WARM, they're clearly more than just meat-puppets.

I'd still like to know the answer to this question: in a real-life scenario involving real-life Cata zombies, exactly how much damage would you have to do to bring it to a KO'd state?

Erm, not to mention, you don't kill zombies. They get back up, remember? You just disable them so they can't move or attack you for a day or two.

That's why I differentiate between the KO'd state and the dead state.

The goo is warm?
That's a possibility. But in that case, why doesn't the goo completely replace the blood?

I realize that, but you were the only one who was, as far as I could tell. :P Rest of you guys were talking like you had to figure out how zombies are dead for good, not just disabled.

Word of the Whale God states that the goo uses alternate-dimension-goo-y power to do the stuff it does.

It feels as though the early game has gotten considerably harder recently. Wolves used to be fairly rare, now the bastards just seem to be hanging around outside of all the shelters. The encumbrance that the starting winter coat gives you is pretty bad as well, but it feels necessary to use it to not get frozen. Only gotten one recent survivor out of his first day, and on the third day a giant wasp demolished him.

Something about this game makes me wonder why God lets it exist.
Say, if you give birth on a ranch and then murder your baby will a corpse drop be guaranteed?

My experience has been the opposite. No wolves, so early game is harder because less meat. I also heartily recommend using a martial arts character if you're dying too much. Put some points in Str and Dex, get Krav Maga or Karate and drop a couple points into Melee and Unarmed. Then proceed to beat legions of the undead into submission with your fists of fury.
