So, I've been away from Cataclysm for a few months, and come back to find a new stable version. Should I just download that, or are there any bug fixes etc. that make the experimental worth getting instead?

Eh, it's a tossup. Experimentals, of course, get new features, but those might introduce the bugs, but they also sometimes have bugfixes relative to stable.

Standard procedure is to keep two copies of the game when playing on the experimentals - one of the latest, and one of the last one that was relatively stable. Downgrade if necessary and wait for bugs to be patched.

Hard science is like a sword, and soft science is like fear. You can use both to equally powerful results, but even if your opponent disbelieve your stabs, they will still die.

It's been very rare that an experimental has just not worked/crashed/locked up. Keep 1-2 past versions and update however often you want. Your saves should work, you just won't get updates of new buildings and other map spawn things in existing explored areas. It's easy to move your save right over. Or just make a copy of the folder and dump the new version in your newly renamed copy.

So, uh, how do you hotwire a car? I have a screwdriver, but [a]pplying it just asks me what battery mods I want to take out, and ^ just keeps saying "You COULD hotwire it. Don't ask me how though, fuck you."

I think it gives a prompt if you try to use the screwdriver when in the same tile... Something like that. I can find out if you like.

Um, yeah, please do, because I am in the tile of the controls and I keep using the screwdriver, as I said all it's doing is asking what battery mods I want to talk out.

Go to the tile next to it, examine the tile, try to control the vehicle, and try to turn it one. If you have a screwdriver it should popup a thing that reads something along the lines of "Cant find keys, try to hotwire it?". You might need electronic or mechanical skill, but I dont think so.

Question, why is the engine on my vehicle randomly crapping out and breaking? Usually preceded by grinding and whining noises.

Just tried Defense Mode. Bought a machete, a shotgun, some grenades and a ton of food, started in a megamall.

Second wave spawns a Chicken Walker which proceeds to chew the wall I'm hiding behind, myself, and the wall behind me to pieces. Never doing that again.

Yeah, that 'safe speed' thing? It denotes how fast you can go before you get engine damage.

Well, the alternative is that you simply ran out of fuel.

Baah, fucking luck. Come across a nice spawn, small town, a gas station and houses, school nearby should I want to become depressed, drunk, and educated, and other than that it's out of the way of anything dangerous.

But nobody has knives or first aid kits or bandages, and all the basements have rats in.
