... so apparently a naked humans skin is proof against .22 LR 90% of the time.

Time to modify a .22 rifle for damage. Gotta get some use out of the buckets of .22 ammo lying around. Bloody useless pistol.

I literally shot ALL of their clothing off and still barely did chip damage 90% of the time. Even with decent LR ammo instead of the real junky stuff.

It was Excellent handguns training though. So it wasn't a total wash.

Counting the casings it took 94 .22 LR bullets to put someone who started out wearing Jeans and a jean jacket down. Slightly excessive.

I can find hundreds of .22 rounds in pretty much every gun store/LMOE shelter/gun enthusiast's basement, so it stands to reason that in game balance terms, it's probably best if they're terrible.

Hard science is like a sword, and soft science is like fear. You can use both to equally powerful results, but even if your opponent disbelieve your stabs, they will still die.

Irrelevant? Decrease spawn chance after increasing usefullness problem solved.

DF doesn't mold players into its image - DF merely selects those who were always ready for DF.

Minecraft UI is very simple. There's only so many ways you can implement "simple" without copying something. We also gonna complain that it uses WASD?

Increase piercing quality and reduce damage further.

Then it's just the same as 9mm or whatever. What's the point of having weak bullets if you're going to whine about them being weak? You might as well get rid of the bloody things entirely.

Can they?

Perhaps you're thinking of .223 or 5.56.

.22 LR is notoriously bad at killing people. It can't even pierce most bone reliably. To kill a human with any reasonable speed, you pretty much have to shoot them in the eye socket or the base of the skull, or fill them with enough lead that their organs are outright unable to function any more.

It can go thru alot of things that arent bone tho, but your point about filling with lead is probably about right...

In-game .22 LR can't pierce even my reinforced trenchcoat with long underwear.  I remember some NPC just plinking away at me while my poor man's armour somehow being bulletproof.

So, based on some quick research, the .22LR round should be very high penetration, very low damage. Seems that it defeats kevlar as well, simply by being too small of a round for the fibers to catch. So, my opinion, very high armor piercing, minimal damage. Possibly lower then the CB and other ultra low power .22 rounds.

Just because it is good vs kevlar doesn't make it reasonable to have high piercing. It won't pierce ceramic plates, it will barely scratch ceramic plates.

Damage and armour in the game aren't really modelled well in the game but in terms of gameplay the .22LR is common, light, low damage and low noise round so it has it's uses while you have the bigger rounds doing more damage with more noise and being more rare.

If you want realism your going to need a huge overhaul on damage and armour in the game.
