You mean I can finally stop guess and checking my X and Y tiling values, and just maximize? :P
Nice work Sean.

Hm...

Active internal furnace?  Either way it's a bug, but different handling is probably warranted.

Any tips for surviving early on? I'm trying to get a good game as the Experiment going, I know how to set up stats and such, but what's the best way to survive?

Bang rocks together and smash windows until you can make a stone knife and wooden needle, then dissassemble strings for thread. Cut up sheets for rags and tailor the crap out of zombie clothes until you can make a decent suit of clothing/armor for yourself.

KNIFE SPEAR. Put a point in survival in char gen and you can make KNIFE SPEARS out of the starting shelter, with a little work. KNIFE SPEARS have +1 to hit, block, strike VERY quickly and do decent damage. And they don't get stuck in things easily, having the SPEAR tag.

EDIT:

With alternate starts, its harder to make the KNIFE SPEAR, but still possible. Smash a car for scrap metal or disassemble a steak knife for the spike. Rags and string come from smashing a window and cutting up the resulting sheet with your pocket knife. Heavy sticks are everywhere.

Things you need very quickly:

Bone/Wooden Needle or Sewing Kit

Something with level 1 cutting and some butchering quality

At least a level 2 hammering tool

A crowbar[Makeshift ones can be made from pipes, which you get from smashing lockers]

KNIFE SPEAR[I may have mentioned this one already]

Storage space[Backpacks are preferable, but a trenchoat or cargo pants work too]

Something to boil water in[Frying pan works best, but you may have to settle for a homemade stone pot]

Matches or a lighter

Digging stick, to make a shallow pit to start fires safely in

A gallon jug for storing impure water in.

Somewhere underground to sleep[Basement of starting shelter works well]

This is the stuff that you should have by the end of the first few days. In the latest experimental, I've been having major problems with cold, so a scarf and gloves are pretty important too.

A scarf and gloves? More like 3-4 gloves.

Even with a shower start, I think its still possible to make a knife spear from starting shelter. IIRC

Grab a rock from outside.
Smash lockers for scrap metal
Make two spikes from the scrap
Smash window
Disassemble strings and the sheets/rags from sheet for thread
Make makeshift knife from one spike
Make knife spear with other knife

Though I may be wrong about that.

You can't dissemble sheets, you need to cut them up. So you also have to go through the trouble of making a stone knife if you don't start with a cutting implement. (Grab two rocks, smash a window, dissemble long string, make stone knife).

*Edit* also, despite the name you don't actually use a knife in the construction of a knife spear, so you don't need two knives.

Nah it's really about that cold if you can't find a bed with blankets on the first night.

I think wearing 3 or 4 pairs of gloves is beyond layering.  I suppose you could wear 3 pairs of gloves in reality, but the inner and outer pairs would have to be very thin and very spacious, respectively.

Why don't we just use nature's pocket?

Did they remove the glass shards from smashing windows?
Did they not give said shards cutting 1?
