Easier vehicular controls? What do you mean?
Also, why would you want to fast travel? You find the best things when traveling, like a helicrash with six guns, or one with eight high-end CBMs.

Dang ninja.

I'd only allow fast travel betwene places you've been to or well, at least cartographed, so that would limit it some. I admit I haven't used vehicles for a while, but I found driving so difficult I just chose to walk everywhere. I don't know if I dare to try even that solar car now that my robocop is doing good. My shelter is almost completely fortified and stocked with supplies. Though I guess the next guy will inherit those anyway...

Controls on vehicles always bugged me because you have to wait or turn to move forward, on the default setting.

If you disable cruise control though, you get pretty straightforward controls - you just need to use diagonal move controls if you want to turn and accelerate, which might be a problem if you're on a numpad-less laptop keyboard and get confused by hjklyubn.

First time playing: I find a power suit and power suit helmet, strip naked to put it on, go fight zombies and almost die. After running like a coward, I instead elect to try the much safer profession of house burglar. After stealing a frying pan and a bunch of books, I retire to a my shelter to bone up on my knife fighting. Soon, I grow hungry and attempt to kill, butcher and cook a moose. Steps 1 and 2 go well, but the attempt at cooking burns down the shelter. Unsure where to go from here, I save and ask the forums: Wat do?

You've used a very good tactic, it's just that pretty much all floors and walls are flammable. You need at least a brazier, or if you don't want to choke on smoke until you die, a wooden or stone fireplace, to cook indoors.

We are doomed. It's just that whatever is going to kill us all just happens to be, from a scientific standpoint, pretty frickin' awesome.

Can we just add a fireplace to an existing building? I'm planning to pimp my shelter and make it a home. That way, should I die, there's a chance the next dude spawns in a ready or almost ready lair.

You can construct a fireplace and you can even find houses that come with one.

So, question: On the lab challenge, can you escape the lab eventualy, or are you actualy locked in a lab with no way out? :v

That depends on what you find in the lab, I guess.

You should be able to tunnel out, at least. Theoretically.

A gas tank and a pipe will make a metal stove, which is just ss good as a fireplace.

Any suggestions? I figure I might push for some bitmap defaults to be included in the game.

@Grek: cook over smaller fires. cook outdoors. cook during the daytime (so you can see anything that spots you from the fire's light).

Holy ****. First time playing and you find a full suit of power armor? Lucky.

Anyway, you need a UPS to power the suit, so it's a late game armor, so what you want to do is be as unencumbered as possible, give your guy the fleet-footed trait, and kite zombies through bushes so you have time to whack them with whatever weapon you have before they can move to hit you. It's a bit tedious but not taking any damage and getting free experience is 100% worth it.

And fire will spread easily so just make sure there is nothing burnable next to it. All buildings are burnable.

I will leave the tips at that, as I think finding out how to survive by trial and error is part of the fun.

Yeeeeea, if the lab happens to interconnect with sewers (like some do) then it could be possible.
