I want to know what the hell that's a reference to and where I can find it.
Someone hotlinked it, so it didn't work for me, but that URL does give some clues that suggest It Came From The Desert.  It's not on GoG, but given its age, it's likely possible to find on an abandonware site (and by likely, I mean I found it, but I'm not sure if it's OK to link).

You are correct.

Also, 100 warmth on all body parts is rather encumbering for a deep lab dive.

Generally recommended solution for ice-diving is to take it in shots: clear no more than one level at a time, and that only as much as you need to find the way down.  Minimum distance and all that.

Base temp applies too, so do the deep diving in Summer.  Every bit helps.

No, I think my deep dive approaching Winter is perfectly legit.

Lightweight vehicles such as the Beetle can get surprisingly good mileage.  DDA's vehicle system is pretty player-friendly, all things considered.

A while ago, I believe I griped a bit at how much energy batteries could hold/how efficient solar cells were.

Yes, implausibly good electric cars are what struck me as incongruous about the setting.

Basic solars are not great at all in the current dev versions.

Cataclysm is such an annoying game.

It makes me keep trying to do programming stuff so I can play it better. :P

I made a subtle little change just now, see if you can spot it:

They're not the ASCII I grew up with. Get off my lawn.

Those roads look okay, although the four-way intersection leading to the house is a bit awkward. Sam with the lone four-way further south amongst the craters.

Eh, that's just the particular tileset.

Notice anything else that's different?

I'd be guessing the map control toggles, but this might be a regular feature, I didn't get any new experimentals for a while.

Pfft. Come on, I don't exactly keep a repository of ASCII fonts for every occasion.

I suppose you don't normally pay great attention to this screen, but normally it's all in one font. If you like your text to be readable, it's the default 8x16 rectangular font, so normally square map features look stretched.

I made it so that the overmap loads a separately-defined font, like the main game view does. Now you can keep the readable vertically-stretched font for all text, inventory, messages, etc, and have the overmap be displayed non-stretched, in square font, possibly different from the font you use for the main view.
