I use plain ASCII. There are no problems for me.

Plain, bitmap-font ASCII? As in, something like this:

As in what you get when you turn off tiles.

What you get when you just turn off tiles is the default 8x16 Terminus font. The TrueType glyphs are loaded differently, so that issue does not exist.

edit: The bug affects all tiles, not just creatures, so you would've noticed it on the map first and foremost:

Note the blank brown bar in the top right corner where the location name should be. The selected location is on the edge of the visible map on the lower right, and it's supposed to be a pizza place, written in pink letters on brown background.

I started in my house whanded about picking up stuff, and a long the way found a pack of cigarettes.
So i light one and go to loot the kitchen but theres a zombie in there so i'm attacking it and taking puffs after each blow with my whip.

Yep - it's part of the fungal mutation feature.

Oh, I see. I use the terminal version, so SDL tiles don't even exist as far as I'm concerned.

...So no. That bacterial infection is going to stay no matter what, because of open wound and all.
Small thing, but there is actually a chance of a wound healing on it's own. IIRC the chance is about 1/3rd, though the majority of those will heal while it's still a bite wound, and if you are recovering from a past infection it can severely lower your chances.
Oop my wording :x
Yes, that's what I'm thinking--what I meant by 'going to stay no matter what' is comparing the presence of disease resistant to non-resistant.

Im happy to see that you can actualy find decent books in houses now. My usual gameplan is acquiring enough food and water and the right books to just read up and gain enough skills to eventualy be able to install all the CBMs I want and delve into labs to find secret documents for specific mutations.

I'm somewhat surprised to see doors hiding behind consoles, kitches sinks, and wardrobes in houses, honestly. I suspect the house-generation system was updated with more randomization, and it's doing little screwups here and there.

At least the mansion I was in seemed a little less familiar this time around.

Maybe the previous occupants barricaded the doors with furniture as a precaution?  :P

Barricaded a door with a sink?

I also found a lawnmower sitting on a chair in some barbeque-loving family's house. I learned not to question my findings after the apocalypse too much.

I also find quite a lot more operable cars lately. Either operable or intact enough to make operable. There's still the occasional crash, and cars with seats or controls torn out, but it seems like there's more of an even mix now.

Speaking of crash, the latest two messages on my current character's message history are "From the southwest you hear a smoker zombie exploding", and "Your Beetle's frame rams into the smoker zombie". I found a working beetle with 1% fuel left, and decided to see if I can use it for any immediate gain. :P

Well, all the houses were looted and ransacked, so they're a mess.

Is there a way to play on Kubuntu without compiling?
