Can you drink boiled water straight from the pot without a second container to pour it into? I couldn't seem to find a way to do so.
Not at the moment, no.

You can, however, boil water without needing to PUT it in a container. So you can, for example, set up a fire, pot, and a single container next to a lake and purify the water straight from the lake.

It, by extension, also works for water in containers on the ground. You can get a pretty big reserve by putting a funnel on a keg or large tank outside and letting that fill in spring, then drag the full container over to the cooking station of choice.

And then, they will be weaponized. Like everything in this game, from kittens to babies, everything is a potential device of murder.
So if baseless speculation is all we have, we might as well treat it like fact.

It also works with that sucking water from corpses bionic, so you can get a dead rabbit and hook it up to a keg for lots of purified water.

I'm fairly certain that this is the first time this sentence has ever been spoken in history.

Unrelated: Is it possible to start a new world with an old character?

I think so, although it requires some savefile trickery.

I'd need to do some !!SCIENCE!! to find out which files are deleted when the character dies, then replace the files of a new character in the new world with the old one's.

I've found the file that holds the character's information (save -> town -> #U2hlcmlu.sav), but not their inventory.

I'd also like to keep the home base I've been working on, but the character itself is the most important. I just want to increase the number of spawns and make the game a touch more challenging.

Isn't their inventory saved in the world save? After all, when they die you can find their corpse and their inventory.

Aha! The file I found does have the inventory. I just copied it over to my new world (After deleting all the remembered traps to prevent Strange Things) and kept everything I had on my person.

Excellent, that means I can keep using the same character while increasing the difficulty.

Oh, that, I think you might actually edit these settings in a txt file in save folder. It's not SAFE, but it might work.

Any idea when we are graced with a next stable version? I know, I know, no actual release dates for this kind of game. I meant more like week or month or months or years or decades.

They've said the next stable version will be released once all these issues are closed.

Most experimentals are fine. Just grab the latest one. The devs are being modest and cautious by implying experimentals are a problem there are new ones every day. There are tons of features in the newer releases.

Is there a change-log somewhere I can look at?

You'll have to look at the commit list on Github.

Or, even better, dive right in! More fun that way, anyway.

After replaying the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series I now wish someone would make a stalker mod. We could have anomalies, random radiation pockets, emissions, better artifacts, etc.

Cata has a lot of that. Not random radiation, but certainly pockets. There are portals and acid rain. Artifacts with negatives and positives.
