Edit: Also does anyone know what causes loud VRRMMMMMS and HRRRMMMMS? It's disrupting my character's reading.

Vehicles with working motors make that sound. Usually I take out something heavy and bash the offending vehicle until they stop making noise. If you have a wrench, removing the engine works. Or you COULD turn it off normally, but that's less fun.

I'm now imagining a scrawny, nerdy, be-spectacled Hollywood Nerd-y character flying into berserk rage at a car for disrupting his reading with a sledgehammer.
This has to be part of the next Cataclysm movie.

EDIT: On an entirely unrelated note, the 2300 AD theme from Chrono Trigger makes excellent background music for Cataclysm.

Maybe send GlyphGryph a message? He's making one.

I'm updating my version using linux through the terminal. Gone through the update steps here, trying to 'make' after successfully 'make clean', I get this error:

Quote
g++ -DLOCALIZE -Wall -Wextra -g -D_GLIBCXX_DEBUG  --std=c++11 -MMD -I/usr/include/ncursesw -c src/action.cpp -o obj/action.o
g++: error: unrecognised option ‘--std=c++11’

Any clue?

Edit. Never mind, I just deleted the folder and started from scratch, see where that gets me.

Guessing your compiler isn't supporting C++11.  Sorry.  Solution we're gonna have to recommend is a compiler update.  Our buildbot uses clang, and folks have been having some success with mingw-w64.

I'm just using the Ubuntu 12.whatever terminal, and it used to work okay before.

Edit. Think I've found something that should work.

Final edit: following the steps of this page got C++11 to compile on my Ubuntu 12.04 terminal and now I've got it to work just fine.

Does anyone bother with laser weaponry? I've gotten my hands on a pistol and rifle, and they don't seem worth the battery usage for the little damage the do.

They're utility weapons, not that flashy for general combat. Nightly city raids is where they shine.

It's a good fallback weapon for characters loaded with bionics - you can just walk off the energy drain if you have the UPS converter and any easy recharging system.

I liked the fusion rifle myself, but ammo is so rare I find it hard to justify using one by the time I find it.

And then, they will be weaponized. Like everything in this game, from kittens to babies, everything is a potential device of murder.
So if baseless speculation is all we have, we might as well treat it like fact.

LAZORS should be all the justification one needs...

Also, when will I get to use actual generators in Cataclysm? Seems like the ideas been kinda shucked off. I want to power buildings, and especially fridges, if I have the gasoline to do so.

Generators work basically like real life. Strap a 1-cylinder engine to a frame and put the biggest alternator you can find on it, then add a battery to store power while the engine runs.

Actual generators. The ones you power buildings with. Not our current jury-rigged hobo mechanic version of generators that don't actually have any functionality.
