It's not completely livable, no, but I'm also in a dense forest and next to a river that I have fish traps in. Deer/bears/moose, foraged stuff, dehydrated fruit, fish, and I could make a daytrip in my storage-plated APC to a triffid grove if I get bored. And there's an ant hive to the south. I gave up trying to butcher everything efficiently. I'm also working on this:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I punched out a window to build the frame indoors, then plugged the hole with heavy duty plating. There's a minifridge waiting to be attached by the recharge station. It currently has 6 storage batteries at 98%, so... 600,000 batteries. Not counting the stuff that's actually running my welder, forge, and kitchen combo station. Or the APC. I think I have a problem.

And then, they will be weaponized. Like everything in this game, from kittens to babies, everything is a potential device of murder.
So if baseless speculation is all we have, we might as well treat it like fact.

I spawned an archer with some basic skill levels.  Went into town.  First building is an arcade.  I found the key to my survival:
I have done what must be done.

Is it really a Dinosaur Costume?

(Which raises the question: Why doesn't cataclysm have ebook readers? )

Better question: Why doesn't it have the internet? :P

I mean, today most pda's or phones can access the internet, and you can just imagine the recipes you could learn from the interwebs, not to mention the potential for morale boostings.

I mean, I guess I can see it as a balance thing, but seriously, why can't I post-apocalypse blog? :P

... Because I doubt the internet infrastructure will survive an apocalypse :v It's very unstable.

Because connecting to the internet will make you vulnerable to the grid bugs that took over at some point.

The way I see it, the internet would be down due to loss of the links that allow it to be a net...
As for lack of ereaders, well, why dont PDAs work as anything besides a light?

Also, I think most of them dont actually hold the ebook, just access it from some server...

I call it unstable because so many bugs pop up on internet infrastructure every day, that in a zombie apocalypse the programmers and such would not be able to fix. End result: No interbutts.

Dude, I had a squirrel bite the connection of a telephone pole and cut out power and internet to 5 houses, including mine.  Power came on later that day, internet was 2 days later.  What makes you think civilian utilities are built to withstand anything more than normal weather?

the fact that we have military bases and science labs ingame

which are irrelevant to civilian utilities really

Still Internet is IN THE CLOUD MAN, ITS IN THE GODDAMN CLOUD!!!

I don't see how there isn't a SINGLE place where wifi is still available, considering how much they talk about their G's and how its accessible from basically the planet.

Internet access was cut off by the government to stymie attempts at information gathering by the DPRK.

It hardly matters if there is a wireless access point if the infrastructure that keeps the internet working (wires, data centers, DNS servers) go down. The problem with the internet is it's very much reliant on computers, which would break pretty easily if say, no one was monitoring the power output of the power plant, and it fried a few. Hell, some Egyptian fishermen cut a wire once going from Egypt to Europe and that fucked my internet up pretty bad until the problem was fixed some time later. The internet we know today is a far cry as far as infrastructure goes compared to the internet of DARPAnet.

No power = no internet except satellite, which tends to get replaced in more urban areas since cabled networks are faster and more reliable.

Add into that the fact that no-one knows how many backbone servers and relay towers were wiped out when various labs and other targets were bombed, what, if any, sanctions were placed as he government went into emergency lockdown mode, and if there even still is a government operating farther to the west, and it's highly likely that you wouldn't be able to find a place where you had internet access (and it makes things much easier to dev :P).
