Clearly, the Gods of Averageness hate you. :P

So, Les finally found a hacksaw on a dead body in his apartment building. Already found a duffel bag and have 4 melee/cutting weapons skill, so it matters not anymore. I play on Classic Zombies, because I think the special zeds' existence is too poorly explained (especially the lightning dude) and the weird netherworld things just seem too wacky to me.

However, I will now create a non-euclidean classic world and debug my way to nukes.

Lightning dude's bionics overcharged.

That, and/or because that's how mutations work - they basically overclock whatever your dominant characteristics are. For Reasons I'm not spoiling just in case.

As there be any update in the lab's notes? Is it worth reading them all over again?

Don't think so.

This is weird to me. In normal mode, everything is actually pretty well explained - there's a reason for the zombies, the special zombies, the triffids and fungaloids and nether critters. Everything makes sense - it's all reasonable outgrowths from the core premises.

Classic Zombie mode, meanwhile, has no explanations whatsoever for anything, and essentially goes "nothing needs to make sense or be explained! ZOMBIES!"

So it's incredibly weird to see someone argue for playing classic mode because they want good explanations for the existence of things.

To be fair, the explanations aren't readily apparent. You need to actually read the labs notes and labs reports, the toxic sarcophagus logs etc etc... And some things (Amigara horrors for exemple) just aren't explained AFAIK.

Meh, whatever. For rougelikes, it's generally the game, not the story in it.

Anyone have a recommendation for the most "stable" current experimental? I find being on the bleeding edge of development bad, due to many, many bugs.

I may have underestimated this game...

Then you get cities like Paris where you should basically just kill yourself already.

Day 4 living in the eye of the horde. Current kill count: 233. I lucked out and found a copy of the Fletcher's Friend on day 1, gained enough fabrication experience to make heavy arrows and a large quiver (which I quite like btw, the quiver containing arrows makes more sense than quivers giving bonus volume storage). It's not impossible, but it's extremely difficult. I'm running out of water and haven't been able to loot the grocery stores/vending machines to find more due to the absurdly large horde. If zombies could navigate stairs better I'd be screwed (basement apartments ftw).

I'm going to repeat my call for an option to have hordes spawn later in the game. Experienced players can handle the swarms early on, they know how to layer clothing as body armor and improvise effective melee and ranged strategies. Newbies will get chewed up and spit out by them, and given how hard the games learning curve cliff is currently I worry that zombie hordes from day one by default will hurt the game's ability to pick up a larger fan base.

Hordes are currently an "experimental" feature, and are meant to be functional rather than balanced. They will change a lot before they become a full fledged feature, and I doubt fullsized hordes on day 1 will be an issue.

I just want to chime in on the illiterate with no positive trait thing. I have had some of my better games be on characters that have had nothing but a profession and sometimes even just a blank character who didn't spend any points. The problem with not being able to read and no skills is not surviving it is late game. Luck can screw or prove any character early game and being unable to read generally doesn't do much early on without a good find. Basically it will delay or even remove late game possibilities. Examples of this are things like a jackhammer, did you find one? Then good, everything is fine but if not then you can't read a book and learn how to make one.
