What's the difference between the "WBLOCK_1" and "WBLOCK_2" tags? I was poking around in the json files comparing swords and noticed that the rapier and katana have "WBLOCK_2" while the broadsword and zweihander have "WBLOCK_1".

Is there a good listing of what the tags do? I assume there's some internal documentation, but is it included in the releases, is it on the main site, or is it done ad-hoc in the code?

This shows some of the math, unless it's outdated (usually is).
Basically, certain weapons can activate a block more often than others.  Weapon Block_2 does I believe 20% or 30% as standard, while _1 only does 10% or 15%.

Look in the techniques.json file in the data folder. That has info on most martial arts techniques and a most of the weapon techniques. The rest of the stuff you'll have to trawl through Github to figure out.

Hello.  I downloaded this game today to give it a try.  Me being me, I started with the tileset, but actually switched over to ASCII after noticing how many tiles seem to be missing; it looks much better this way.  So, my games have basically been me stumbling from disaster to disaster, getting killed by zombies, spitters, and the occasional fat man (and on one memorable instance, a very angry moose right outside the shelter doors) in my desperate search for water, discovering the hard way that leaving pots or other containers outside in the rain won't make them magically fill with rainwater, making it to night with precisely one character only to nearly freeze due to the early spring chill, and generally me demonstrating why I will never survive the apocalypse.  It's quite entertaining, really; I'm loving it.  ^_^

There is one minor issue, though.  I downloaded the latest experimental build as far as I can tell (Main website, click "Windows Console" under Experimental Builds from the right menu, click "Cataclysmdda-0.9.zip"), but I've been running into some odd errors.  Reproduced from the debug log:

Code: [Select]
src/item_factory.cpp[417]: Missing item (check item_groups.json): honey
src/item_factory.cpp[417]: Missing item (check item_groups.json): mre_hotdog_box
src/item_factory.cpp[417]: Missing item (check item_groups.json): mre_4finger_box

The honey error appears with the crafting screen from one of the starting recipes that calls for honey, and the MREs popped up when I got too close to a military surplus store that had spawned with one of those.  At first, I assumed it was just a beta issue, but I haven't been able to find anyone else on the forums here or there who are encountering this issue.  I went into the JSON files to see if I could fix it, but I couldn't figure out where to start; while honey isn't present, the two MREs are already there.  Since no one else seems to have mentioned this error at all, did I download the right file, or is this just user error?

That kind of error happens all the time. Keep checking the experimental if you'd like to play without running into them- (it updates FREQUENTLY).
Also, check in with the IRC to quick-post these kinds of bugs, 'specially if you just downloaded it.

@blaze
Huh, is wb3 new? Shields implemented? Are they a clothing article?

Shield effect has been there, WB3 is used for mainly martial arts, I think particularly when you use a limb to deflect a blow.  Actually holding a wooden shield in front of you, is not in-game at this point.  It'd be easy enough to make a wielded item that has a high blocking rate... but you couldn't wield a weapon with it, so it'd be like you were two-handing your shield.  There's not yet support for dual-wielding that shields would demand.

Sssssorta?  Each item in the game has a volume and a weight, which gets put through math to determine its swing speed.  If you made a sword+shield as one item, you'd effectively glue them together and be waving them both around with both hands, which would make for an awkward sword.  You could only reflect the weight/volume of the sword, and it'd be a functional melee weapon like a regular sword, but then when carried or stored in your inventory, it'd only consume a rather small space and weight, as your 'shield' portion is effectively a sheet of paper - weightless and too small to count against weight.  Plus, you'd then have one specific items, you couldn't mix and match mace, sword, or spear with shield, you could ONLY use the sword+shield that you newly created as a single item.

It's possible, but not really practical.  Perhaps something that'd work better is a worn item that uses a martial arts style that everyone knows by default, shield use.  This martial art is only active while wearing the shield (or suitable item, like metal arm guards?) and the only effect is that it has an extremely high block rate using arms.  The effect would be - you equip a shield, you start using your limb's extra armor to start blocking attacks.  It's a little hacky of a solution, but with some polish might work, like adding a proper shield use skill.  Ideally, multi-handedness would solve many things, including such fun as dual daggers, monkey-gripping a zweihander in one hand, and combination attacks when you use two rapiers and mark a swift anime-style X slash across an enemy's chest.

Perhaps a shield attachment for melee weapons?  >.>

As a temporary fix, perhaps.  Gotta be the post-apocalyptic knight.

When making/modifying a car, is there any reason to use windshields over quarter panels? Both act as rain/weather stops, but quarter panels strike me as more durable and easier to find replacements for.

You can install a sheet onto a windshield, and pull it shut or open.

Do we know specifically what parts of vehicles you can shoot over without damaging itself?  I'm planning on installing a few turrets...

Where is the option for such? I've always wondered how the windows of houses are one-way 'doors' but never found the solution in making one.
Though the presence of the sheet and string did give a clue..

So, there a website in beta where you can play RL in the browser.

Among the selection is CDDA.

So, I last played a bit when the Ma version came out. What's new in the experimental version and is it stable enough to give it a try?
