Nope, you can't recharge, but you can make batteries out of simple stuff with a little electronics skill.

To clarify, you need a funnel, some acid rain, and some bits of metal and a tin can IIRC. Some cooking and electronics skill will help.

Also, I have the best luck. Start a new world in a massive city. No shelter, fine, thats normal for my cities. Run to hardware store. Find the legendary Jacqueshammer and a shopping cart. Look outside, RV sitting there, everything in mostly working order except for a single tire and the engine.

Hey, diluted ethanoic acid is acid too! Meaning that you can make vinegar batteries.

Or ammonia. Batteries are one of the easier items to make, just scrap metal, ammonia/vinegar/lemon, and an aluminum/tin can. You can also remove them from items like MP3 Players, Flashlights, Soldering Irons, Talking Dolls, etc by 'U'nloading them. Items like Cell Phones can be 'D'isassembled for batteries as well (though it requires a screwdriver)

The RNG seems to finally be giving me a break. Recently I've had a streak of terrible luck including once seeing among other things a zombie hulk when looking outside my Evac Shelter's window. This time however i managed to loot some basic supplies including a shopping cart to keep me alive for awhile. I think maybe the RNG was just trying to teach me to be less reckless.

I gave up on the survivor gear. Kevlar is too rare atm, no good place to find repair parts. Leather should be sufficient, I'll probably keep it safely in the Hoboni until I sweep a lab or bunker. Oh well.

Edit: Vehicle mechanics are much better in the experimental that I have (probably not the most recent, but within a few days), but there's still some weirdness. I can smash through a house and not damage the vehicle at all, but bisecting a zombie with the front mounted blades on the Hoboni requires moderate repairs to the front end. Either zombies should do less damage on impact, or houses should do more. Though it is fun to mow down the "white picket fence" in front of a house to back up to the door for looting.

Cooking generally reduces nutrition compared to the components, you cook for the mood bonus or spoilage advantage.

Not so fast mister! The body needs to be able to digest your food to get any nutrition from it; that's why we chew it. Cooking = less chewing = easier to digest = easier to get them nutrients = we could develop bigger brains.

What removes nutrients is boiling- they get left behind in the water, (which, in turn, becomes broth).

Firstly I was talking about in the game. Cooked food either has a higher enjoyability or a longer shelf life than the individual components.

Secondly, sources? Given that hunter/gatherers tend to work 2/3 hours a day (source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Original_affluent_society), it seems unlikely that cooking was the tipping scale for intelligence. If they needed more food, they could just work a little overtime.

I've also heard this, though I can't remember where. Less time hunting/gathering to fulfill our nutritional requirements also meant more time for socialising, recreational activities and other activities. Animals basically spend their entire lives struggling to find enough food just to stay alive. We could afford to develop other skills.

Hmm, I'll go find a source, but I've heard it all over the place. The reason we could develop such large brains is because our masseter muscles have gotten much, much smaller. It used to be, (and this is hundreds of thousands of years ago, before homo sapiens existed as a distinct species), we had to spend hours upon hours chewing our food- this required Massive masseter muscles & a robust jaw, which in turn needed to be seated in a sturdy skull. Which, in turn, precluded large brain sizes.

Cooking the food on the other hand made it easier to digest, saving us energy in our gut & providing more available nutrients/calories, which helped out with our energy-hungry brain.
