I tend to prefer lighters to matchbooks, so when I spot one I pick it up.  They of course have 100 uses when I first get them.

I've noticed for a few games now that when I go to light my first fire with it (often 1-4 game days after picking it up) the lighter is already at 98-96 charges.

Do they leak when carried now?

Are my character's secretly pyros?

In the cold of the night, are they flicking the lighter on to warm their hands or something, and not bothering to tell me?

I smashed it, but for some reason it took ~30 hits despite 11 strength. Weird.

This is what Half-Life has done to gamers as a whole. Well, one of the things. The other is seeing vent grates as being equally viable as doors.
But the crowbar thing is probably bigger.

No. I opened it, found that it was empty, and then smashed it.

"Crates" I think are metal or tough wood construction, the sort that's dropped by airdrop.  So yes, they are pretty tough to smash.

shower victim archer is actually really fun, get the npc to give you clothes((or A machine gun, but whatever)) and make  A short bow out of benches and windows, arrows out of wood, get A hammer and your set ((and some clothes)), 3 and I killed atleast A hundred zombies, and 2 brutes, once I find carbon fiber arrows ill be having fun
