Dragging vehicles sounds interesting. Now if only there were mountable hitch balls that we could use to pull trailers. I know there's no functional difference between that and a flatbed truck... just aesthetics.

Well, actually there is. If you find a trailer hooked up to a truck (or on its own) you could add that to your working vehicle without needing any special tools. Plus, you could drop off the trailer at your main base while you go around if you don't want to haul it around, while in a truck you need to haul all of it all the time.

Huh. I've never actually seen one of those. I'll keep a closer eye out next time.

I was talking in real life, not in game. I was just agreeing that Trailers would be useful, and in what ways they'd be different from just having a larger truck.

Wait, are you saying you can ACTUALLY tow vehicles behind another vehicle?  Like, you can attach a semi-trailer to a semi-truck?  Is this a thing?

Okay, I have a video of Deon's tiles up here. They look good so far and the zombies are good and distinct from what I have seen. The shocker and dog zombies for example both look like zombies while showing what they are which is a great thing.

Edit: and it now goes to the correct place

So it seems I accidentally put my canteen in my wheelbarrow and didn't notice... and then I got really thirsty... so right before going to sleep I go to take a swig from my canteen and... end up snorting a line of low-grade meth.

Will it be possible to have multiple tilesets at once and switch from one to another while ingame ?

Thats what I get for not checking it. I copy and pasted but took no time to look as I assumed it was the right one but I had added the forum link to the video descriptions and forgot I had done so. Well the links now go to my video both here and in Deon's thread.

That's technically possible, but it would be a good bit of work I think, and we don't have any plans to do it at the moment.

As of right now it's trivial to switch by drag dropping some files and restarting the game and though.

Nope, talking about real life. Would be nice to have in game, though.

-Also, this sounds almost hilariously stupid out of context. :P

Thinking a bit, it should be possible to make it work in-game...  If the player can drag a vehicle based on the player's Strength, then it should be possible to make a vehicle drag a vehicle based on the puller's excess power...

If it's possible to switch from ASCII to tiles then this should just be a simple extension to that.

Yeah I misread it the same way, as

"I wish we had trailers, but there's no different between a truck."
"Actually there is such thing as trailers."

when it was meant

"Actually there is a difference between a truck and trailer."

Also I agree that your quote sounds funny out of context.

As of right now it's trivial to switch by drag dropping some files and restarting the game and though.
Trivial is having an option in the options. Dragging and dropping files is not trivial as it requires actual effort which can be messed up by accident. Of course I don't think it needs the options to be honest. Most people will find a tile set or just use ASCII and then stick with what they chose. Of course looking at how the data is stored it seems that the game loads the file tile_config.json and the images tile.png and tinytile.png so if you turned the variables that stored those paths into normal ones and let them be set in the options menu it would be easier and you could keep everything in the gfx folder (Ex I could have default.json default.png tinydefault.png as well as deon.json deon.png and tinydeon.png). Though I will stress that this is probably not needed.

@Darkmere
This forum has many quotes that sound amazing out of context but the best ones that are exactly what they say even in context. After all out of context is like laughing at someone liking the drink balls and saying they like the taste of balls. It funny but everyone has heard the joke or something similar. When you get a quote about farming mermaids for their valuable bones and its exactly what it says on the tin? Now thats golden.

I've been posting over on the Cata forums as I work on my tileset.

Definitely not pretty like Deon's, I'm mainly working on fully populating the tile sheet so that people can actually play the game using tiles vs. grumbling into their neckbeards about how ascii is better :P

I have most of the terrain/hardcoded elements in place (minus some of the stranger traps and rare locations, temple elements specifically), almost all the items have a generated sprite based on their normal ascii display (minus CBMs and loose vehicle pieces), non zombie monsters are all placeholders/text.  I plan to completely populate the tile definitions before I worry about stuff like "graphical tiles".

So, it's ugly, but it's "there".

Current version here, just unzip and drop both files into your gfx folder.
