So rolled a character on a new build. And I noticed that instead of a ranged bonus, Perception now just decreases ranged penalty, and never goes above -0. Does increasing Perception past 12 actually do anything, or has that stat just been rendered worthless to push more than 4 points in?

You still see traps more easily, and your perception is more resistant to decay from things like poison and pain?

Pretty much this. An eventual goal is to add a little bit more into the stat so it still has approximately the same utility as before.

At first, I thought something was wrong with my client, because I couldn't see the time of day. I looked all over my options, double-checked it was set to 24hrs, but found nothing wrong. So while looting a house, I randomly found a wristwatch. Wore it... now I can tell the time. I really like that detail, even if I was initially confused/annoyed by it! :)

I once shot a bear in the eye with a bow on the first shot, cut it up, found another one, and shot it in the eye too. The collective pile of meat weighed more than my house.

Is there a thing where a person can just have a perfect sense of time? Maybe add in that as a cheap trait.

Higher survival, and or intelligence/perception should allow you to tell the time.  For instance I go out boating/camping a hell of a lot so I find it really easy to tell how many hours till dark, morning, ect.

A plethora of things should let you have the time.

The MP3 player, and the radio. The Power Armor helmet. There should be a bionic for it. And there should also be a trait, as there are folks with really good & accurate sense of time.

I don't particularly like the change to ranged bonuses and such if it is meant as a balance for bows. What should be done there is split the skill for firing a bow from crafting the ammo. IE archery and fletchery. If the change is to do something else then its fine and I still think the bow stuff should be changed as suggested. Being able to make a good arrow and fire said arrow is completely different skills.

So it seems I accidentally put my canteen in my wheelbarrow and didn't notice... and then I got really thirsty... so right before going to sleep I go to take a swig from my canteen and... end up snorting a line of low-grade meth.

There's actually incremental changes to ranged combat being made over time, and melee will follow soon after.

the skill split is a separate topic also being discussed.

Just make crafting arrows survival based. It's not like firing a bow gives you any experience working with arrows. Or vice-versa.

I think the change was to stop 20 perception characters being gods amongst men with no skill points and getting max range headshots nearly every time. Skill is more important than perception now... which does kinda make sense. How much does natural perception really help with guns? It's more experience and skill based really. Maybe have perception affect the accuracy of sounds. If you're blowing enough points to get perception 20 without cheating you probably deserve perfectly accurate soundsense. Its not like all enemies even show up on it anyways.

My problem isn't so much with the perception nerf but rather that as is some skills are to easy to raise while others are really hard or if you have skill rust impossible to raise.

Really the change was to stop players from shooting better then was physically possible with their guns (this is what having a perception or dexterity "bonus" actually used to be, you warping reality to make your gun shoot better then physically possible).

In way older versions (before DDA) I took a 14 perception character with a nailgun and about 600 nails into a Megastore (at the time, the only multi-tile buildings and the ultimate mecha of hordes) and using display racks (then indestructible) and choke points, combined with Quick and Fleet Footed, I could get headshots using a nailgun for one-shot kills at 3 range, and could outrun anything that could survive that (Hulks mainly).

Ranged combat has historically been INCREDIBLY powerful with sufficient skill and perception.

On the other hand, I've seen 18str people with unarmed strike creatures so hard the corpse vanishes - this was originally made so that firing a grenade at a rabbit wouldn't leave anything butcherable, but also meant that if you could punch over the damage threshold it would de-atomize creatures.

I just died 14 more times and counting trying to make a character survive for more than 10 more real life minutes each time. I can never get gear (mainly clothing with a bigger storage capacity) because the shelter I spawn in is always either empty or has no goods worth taking up my 2 inventory spaces. I can't look in sporting goods stores or gun stores for a backpack or weapons because I can never find one that isn't smack dap in the middle of a town. As soon as a house I can search on the minimap is visible I instantly get swarmed by dozens of hungries. When I started playing this DDA version I promised myself that I wouldn't wish for items, read any of those long-ass and all-revealing tutorials just to find out how to survive the first onslaught day or use any sorts of exploits.

If someone can give me a few words of advice before my head explodes out of pure rage, that'd be awesome.

I think that's actually just how new england is. I would observe that it's either too much or too little rain: t rains for days, then it doesn't rain for days.

That is correct. I know from experience... (Grumpy face)

Smash wooden furniture, grab rock, craft "nail board", lure zombies into bushes, bash them to death one by one.
