This gives me a idea...
When/If Z-levels will work with cars, we should be able to add a second floor kinda thing to our cars, and something like a ladder to get up there.
Or in other words, SNIPER NEST!

I can just imagine the day someone makes a challenge /w mod that lets you re-enact speed with its 'You cannot slow down' thing... DAMNIT I wish I could mod.

Not shooting the vehicle will be more difficult, but should be possible.
Configurable options, either in-game or via the main menu.

Vehicle Turret Safety Settings:
-1: No safety, as default
0: Do not fire if the bullet path includes the vehicle itself (ie, does not try to shoot through boards on diagonals.  Be careful it's not a blind "is there a vehicle here" check, because we still want to shoot OTHER vehicles, specify the check for the mounted vehicle!)
1: Do not fire if the bullet's path comes within 1 tile radius of the same vehicle's tile, ignoring the first tile as it would always be 1 tile away from the turret itself.  This would be used for extra safety or when using slightly volatile ammo, like flamethrowers.
2: Do not fire if the target's location is within 2 tile radius of the same vehicle, mainly used for grenades or other explosives.

Probably need some tweaking, you get the idea though.

Also suggest we get more turret types, if possible making it into a full-on free choice and letting the user mount any weapon, stealing its damage and accuracy for the turret's stats, and assuming the weapon is some sort of belt-fed with no recoil and slow fire speed, with brass-catcher automatically, drawing ammo from the box directly beneath.

Seriously I've got so much 9mm I don't even!

Turrets drop like 300 apiece, sometimes.  I've got like 2,000 stored up, using a Calico just to expend them and get some Firearms skill!

New version claims turret drop rate is 'fixed' so don't know anymore.

I'm not versed well yet in coding or how this game works, but would it be possible to build a turrets that you can remotely control?  So that way it would be possible to build a rocket turret, and use it to selectively destroy buildings, or to use machine guns to only wipe out large groups of enemies? 
EDIT:  For example, you could have some remote control weapon, which, when you fire at an enemy, causes the turret to shoot at it.  When burst fire is off, the turrets either only fires a single shot or kills just that enemy.  When burst fire is on, it will either fire multiple shots or it will target all hostiles in sight.

Problem: Items are drawn on top of furniture - when investigating a sport goods store at spawn I can see items everywhere, appearing as if there are no shelves, but the terrain is still impassable and everything, instead of showing a 'filled shelves' tile.

Yea remote-controlled turrets and robots should be possible.  I was thinking about this when testing a recent robot fix due to being unable to control a swarm of manhacks.  At the very least we should be able to implement a remote control that lets you issue commands, it's possible we could do some kind of telepresence even.

That could also add a function to radio towers (I am unaware if they actually do anything right now).   Without one you're range is limited.  However, if you go to one and fix it up (Hook up a solar panel or generator, repair any damaged circuits, etc) Then you can issue commands to something across town.  Or, once Z levels are implemented, then you could build your own tower on a blimp or car. 
I remember Prospector having a rather neat radio interface.  You either need to have a satellite in orbit or a line of sight to your ship.  Which makes open plains very desirable, as it gave you constant access to your on ship artillery (Using ship to ship rockets on natives never got old).

Well crap, hmm, that's an item reference in a spawn list not matching an actual item, likely a typo.
Need to update the message to let us know what the item id was. <_<
