Meh. Fema camps aren't too hard. Several times they're the first place I've went to. (the secret is barbed wire)

EDIT: So I dropped this fractal jelly because I was about to chug a bunch of mutagen so I just dropped everything. And it... turned into nothing (3). Huh. Never even got to use it...

Also. If I have hooves and webbed hands and tentacle arms.. How am I supposed to warm up my feet and hands? I can't wear any clothing on them. I thought being furry would help, but its not.

Youll have to sit near a fire. Craft a brazier and you can light a fire inside it safely even indoors.

What i like about the starting shelter is that the upper right console emit JUST enough light to read in pitch darkness nights. Thats the reason why i always live and expand it, well either the starting one or another one closer to a town if the starting one is too far. Also i have a question. Does palissade gate are customizable in lenght? Because i wanted to make a courtyard/scrapyard where i would work onn cars etc while still  being protected from wildlife. Having a bear sneak on you while installing an engine can be a bit fun breaker...

DF doesn't mold players into its image - DF merely selects those who were always ready for DF.

Minecraft UI is very simple. There's only so many ways you can implement "simple" without copying something. We also gonna complain that it uses WASD?

As long as you have a section of palsade wall on each side, they can be as long as you want.

you can light a fire inside it safely even indoors.

Having previously lit fires inside a LMOE shelter, I thought it would be safe to light fires inside a house and read books by it (because who wants to waste their batteries?). Obviously, the house burnt down, with me scrambling to pick up by grenade launcher and longbow. Not fun.

Having totally not learned my lesson, I decided that the fire probably started because the fire was too large. So I try with a single stick and some splintered wood. Doesn't work. House #2 goes up. This time, I get cornered by the fire and burn to death.

Next time, braziers; although I have no idea where to get sheet metal from.

You can get it by disassembling slides.

So it seems I accidentally put my canteen in my wheelbarrow and didn't notice... and then I got really thirsty... so right before going to sleep I go to take a swig from my canteen and... end up snorting a line of low-grade meth.

I just wanted to say that I started playing DDA for the first time yesterday and I'm already loving it. Static spawns was an unexpected, but very welcome option, and lead to a crazy situation.

I once shot a bear in the eye with a bow on the first shot, cut it up, found another one, and shot it in the eye too. The collective pile of meat weighed more than my house.

It should be screwdriver+hammer like for any deconstruction. Also, you can craft sheet metal from 4 scrap metal, as long as you have at least 2 in mechanics, welding goggles and a charged welder.

The better thing? One day you're going to be strolling through that area of the world and that hulk is going to be there waiting for you.

Enemies in Static don't despawn like in Dynamic, they're offloaded into the tile they're in once you leave and will reappear when you return.

The new system is pretty awesome, on the old spawning system you spawned zombies everywhere through noise and you could never really clear a town of zombies which stole a lot of the feeling of progression you can get now. Now if you get strong enough you can give yourself the mission of clearing out every town you cross, and it gives you more incentives to continue exploring after you get yourself a nice shelter.
When cataclyms gets real Z levels and more endgame content, it'll become one of the best survival games ever.

Did some testing on lighting fires inside houses and it seems that bathrooms are actually fireproof to a degree. Lighting a fire with four heavy sticks in a bathroom resulted in the fire going out eventually (~10mins game time) while a fire the same size in the bedroom made the place go up in smoke. Its cool that the game simulates the tiling in places like that.

EDIT: Sudden urge to ask for a pyromaniac trait; giving morale if you burn things. Not being a coder, I wouldn't know how hard this would be to code.

For each tiles or raging fire in sight give +5/10 morale bonus? Too long without a raging fire you get *urges* that if you dont fill it within a few hour you get morale drawback. Might be like asthmea attacks exept you need to see a fire and get negative morale instead of physiscal drawback :D

This! I suppose it could be possible to give a mood bonus when near a fire, although it would be a bit of a problem when you start getting blisters.
