Is it me or the game is spawning zombie dogs and children in cleaned towns (as of version from aprils 4th)? Anything other than random spawned fit clothes requires clean build?

While I'm at it, here's a suggestion ; Right now you never have a 100% chance to install a CBM, no matter how good your skills are or how easy it is to install. I understand that the game is supposed to be hard, but it seemed a bit unfair to me. So I modded my version, replacing (in bionics.cpp) this :

Code: [Select]
int chance_of_success = int((100 * pl_skill) /
                             (pl_skill + 4 * type->difficulty));

by that :

Code: [Select]
int chance_of_success = int((100 + pl_skill) -
                             (10 * type->difficulty));

And it actually works pretty well, there is still a fair margin for failure at low skill level, but once I got my skills up with books, I was able to attain 100% chance.

Here's a more complete version, to avoid going above 100% chance and coloring 100% in blue:

And I also noticed that the calculation for success was a bit inaccurate :

"if (success > 0)" should be "if (success >= 0)", otherwise, say that you have a 100% chance of success and the RNG give you 100, 100-100 = 0 and it's a failure, so it really was 99% chance of success. The same idea applies to other % of success, they are really 1% lower than they let you think.

Heatpacks should probably work to warm parts of the body. I had this whole life and death struggle with weather and had about 5 heatpacks and the only thing I could warm up was my bottle of whisky. We have the double action pouring water out of containers code and we have the seperate parts of the body code for healing and stopping bleeding, shouldn't be too hard.

Well.. I set up base in a FEMA camp lab because no windows and metal doors and concrete walls... I completely looted a town and several bunkers and outposts, and dragged it all back to base with the aid of a bicycle.

And then... I made an NX-17 charge rifle and started playing around. And then it started beeping and then... Well... the lab is gone. Holy shit. There goes all my stuff. All my guns and ammo. Like two months worth of food, and all my crafting supplies.  To a huge inferno. Holy fuck the charge rifle is powerful. I thought it would charge up and then have ten individual shots ready not one huge one that randomly fires if it overcharges.

So now I have.. the charge rifle. an M1911 I happened to have on my person, and a little ammo for it. And a suit of power armor with a hauling frame I barely managed to rescue and escape with before the inferno consumed everything. Along with some miscellaneous tools and supplies I always have on hand. The only thing left in town is duplicates of stuff I didn't need more then one of.

Fuck.

The Aftermath after I slept off that horrible night

That entire concrete wall that's just gone? Thats all from the initial rifle shot. Well. Time to see what's salvageable.

Seems like items that get the > and < commands in the inventory are straight up unaccessible, that's a problem.

First time i found a FEMA camp there was like 7 zombie soldier in a real small lab, i tought it was the gate post or something, didnt wait twice, fired up a 40mm incendiary in there, went all ablaze they all died... but didnt know it was the ONLY building worth salvaging... and with the raging fire that took over 6hr game time to pass out... well not much was remaining after that....

DF doesn't mold players into its image - DF merely selects those who were always ready for DF.

Minecraft UI is very simple. There's only so many ways you can implement "simple" without copying something. We also gonna complain that it uses WASD?

Cold isn't that bad. Wool socks, sneakers, tailored long underwear and skirt, leather trenchcoat and tailored glove liners plus light gloves or leather gloves, along with a scarf and some sort of hat and you're set.

Balaclavas also work nicely for a hat/scarf.

Turn on a UPS while you're wearing it and you're practically invulnerable to everything but fire and drowning. Nearly. Until you run out of power or are slowly whittled down.

I'm finally ready to start learning C++ properly and I figured the best way to start would be to jump in a try modding something, and I've chosen Cataclysm. I know I need to get everything set up so I can compile Cataclysm from scratch. I'm using Windows. I've looked at the guide on the wiki and when it said:
Quote
Start off by downloading cygwin from the official site. Follow the download instructions on the site, and select all of the following packages when prompted to:
make
G++
libncurses-dev
libncursesw-dev
git
I couldn't see those packages in the list when prompted when I was trying to download cygwin. Could anyone give a slightly more detailed explanation of what I should be doing to get things set up? Or link me to where such an explanation is given?

I suggest grabbing Code::Blocks, MinGW package. It's what I use to develop in Windows.
