New version of Cataclysm you say?

Take three steps out of shelter.

NPC runs out to blow away a squirrel with a shotgun.

Three wolves, two spitters, and a brute immediately come running.

Yep, new version of Cataclysm.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
In retrospect, cooking my meat by starting a fire with the sheet lying next to the bed was not the best of plans.

DOH. Nor was standing next to the raging inferno to take those images.

Playing the windows version; shortly after that image, the game crashed for the second time since I got the update. Both times, the NPC was in some form of danger (I wasn't watching directly, but the first they were in combat, the second they were standing near the fire, as shown in the image). It could be related to NPC death, though more testing will be required to confirm that.

Edit: hmm, killing a couple npcs disproves that theory

Just saying that the devs have countless of times suggested turning NPCs off as they're messed up.

With that said, why aren't npcs off by default?

Because most people would prefer them on but buggy, and there was a lot of whining when we tried to turn them off by default.

Just to be clear, we are talking about the one NPC that spawns with a shelter right ? People taking him on adventures or what.

Just saying that the devs have countless of times suggested turning NPCs off as they're messed up.

This raises the point that the current package doesn't say how to disable NPCs.  Yes its the file thing, but there's no actual instruction to do so in the game as downloaded, I had to experiment with it.

Actually, no, I haven't figured it out.  There's two files in the data folder, no_npc.txt and nonpc.txt, and the placement of either or both of these files is having no effect on whether my worlds generate with NPCs.

Likewise, I think the FAQ screen might be bugged into not displaying the first page.

Oh ?

They were turned off by default before, but you could turn them on (I always did). They were basically just like the one in the shelter, except more random and moving around by themselves. And there are a lot of bugs related to them.

Apparently, they're on by default now.

If you enable the debug menu its only a couple of key presses to kill them all. Its handy.

edit: any way to clean bite wounds without burning up all my first aid kits?

Wait until it progresses to infection and take an antibiotic. Adding in cleaning is planned for some point.

I've gotten like three crashes in the space of ten minutes, all by trying to shoot zombies offscreen with a heavy SCAR. The latest one I noticed the bullet path was going through two windows at the edge of the screen. Is shooting through windows or very far buggy? because I can avoid smiting zombies from across town if need be.
