Yeah, I was enjoying the current state of the game before the infectious bite mechanic.  I think you should have to be incapacitated somehow to receive a bite.  Such as:  you are vulnerable to biting while a grabber zombie has you grabbed, or you are stunned or knocked down or something.  This wouldn't just be better balanced, but realistic.  Try lunging at someone with your face and see if you manage to sink your teeth in :P  Bites are something that happens to a grappled, helpless, or unaware opponent.

I'll not be removing that, but I'll be making it so it's not an instant kill after 72 hours elapse, and you'll be able to clean the wound out with boiling water and bandages rather than a first aid kit.

Also edit.
Ozone, latest member of the 'official' dev team, is awesome.

Making it deadly doesn't bother me.  The thing is, the debilitation will kill your chances of survival anyway, especially early on when you have no resources stashed to weather it out.  With the likelihood of receiving a bite on your first day, maybe make symptoms much slower onset, modified by strength?  My last character was 12 strength, and my limb was turning green after only a couple hours.  Need to stay functional long enough to have some chance of finding antibiotics.  Plus, if you receive the bite in the middle of a fight, infection seems like it will currently take hold before you have a chance to clean it anyway.

Infection takes ~6 hours I think.

This is awesome stuff. I always wondered how a live c++ opensource game/rl project would look like. Btw was that an drawing engine change? something different?

Also another question: what is long term goal of this game (and any playthrough?). I imagine it would be some sort of sci-fi survival masterpiece. And each playthrough is more of a sandbox. Or is it survive, get strong and then rebuild (e.g. gathering other survivors, building some infrastructure, etc...) and then retake the world :) ? This way it would be very interesting long term goal. Also now this reminds me of "Falling skies" sci-fi series somewhat.

It's whatever you want.
You might dedicate your character to eradicating all of the triffids or fungaloids. You might build a mighty fort and let the zombies break themselves on your walls, you might gather up survivors and try to rebuild, you might just bugger off into the woods and live the rest of your life with nature.

I may have been very lucky but starting with 2 levels in dodge when I was playing around with the github version made bites really really rare.

In fact I was having an easier time meleeing because they would waste their time ineffectually trying to bite me instead of attacking.  I was seeing only about 1 in 50 bite attacks actually land, and they were easy enough to fix up with a first aid kit.

(This was yesterdays version at about 12 noon Eastern time)

Or you might dedicate yourself into becoming a super mutant and losing your mind in the process turning you into a blob that assimilates all matter around you eventually destroying the world and creating a large blob planet that is fully sentient that takes over the galaxy with its power psychic powers until Yog-Sothoth gets involved.

Be fun if you could summon a Great Old One or one of the Outer dieties. You lose of course but it would be interesting.

Same here.  The problem is you have to face so many zombies in the course of finding a first aid kit...  You're pretty lucky if you find a pharmacy right on the edge of town, or a house with first aid in the bathroom.

You'd think they'd store those in emergency shelters, right.

Honestly the Emergency Shelters are so barren I personally think they were one of the first places ransacked... either that or they were from the cold war and are no longer being used for anything (but the computer deconfirms this)
