By the sound of it, gunning down zombies continuously will eventually kill all the zombies in an area? Or will they just keep coming in larger waves due to sound?
If you're using the classic spawning system, then you'll keep spawning more until the entire city's population is killed. If you're using the static spawn system, you'll only draw in zombies that are in the active map.

When they spawn do they spawn once, or are they spawning from the *pool*? But only attract whats close?

DF doesn't mold players into its image - DF merely selects those who were always ready for DF.

Minecraft UI is very simple. There's only so many ways you can implement "simple" without copying something. We also gonna complain that it uses WASD?

They are pregenned as in placed on the map, no more of them spawn.
Its entirely possible to clear out a city now. Though the new spawning system makes it so even the thinnest populated villages in jack shit nowhere are full of sdpecial class zomgs

I got lucky and found a village on spawn. There was a dead military unit right outside my evac shelter so I had a USP .45 and a grenade launcher with incendiary, frag and teargas combined with a katana wielding start companion. Never have I been so lucky. I have since cleared the town and am using its garage to make a custom car.

Dear lord, I come to bay12 catDDA thread because I have a problem, and the answer is right here on the last page.

But yeah, I do expect shotguns to draw zombies, but DAMN I kill a few child zombies and make a run for it and 'you hear a piercing shriek!'
Seriously, I get freakin swamped every damn time. We really need a sneak mode, because even with light step anything that has a LOS acts like a radar-guided missile. It's even worse trying to escape them, I run around a few corners and they still follow me accurately. feels like every shot spawns more zombies. Even killing the odd one or two in melee for a silent kill seems to draw more.

So far my current standard operating policy goes like this:
1) Wake up in shelter, run outside to find a rock.
2) Rock in hand, bash in a few benches
3) fabricate a nailboard.
4) Raid houses/clothing stores/Military surplus for clothes and backpacks.
If there's a sporting goods or pawn shop I usually check those out too, upgrading from a nailboard to a nailbat is a nice step.
By this time however I usually trip over a zombie, which swiftly becomes a horde.

Edit: Also, it would be nice if we could make homemade flamethrowers. SprayCan + Duct tape + Cheap lighter. Give it a range of like, 1-2 squares. Unless you can already make them and my crafting skill ain't high enough.

Craftable flamethrowers are definitely in there. You can even mount them on your car! IIRC, I think it takes 6 mechanics to craft one. There  is also the mini-flamethrower bionic. But the addition of a lower skill aerosol spray can flame thrower would be nice.

or maybe Valve goes out of business because they invested too heavily in something which then fails - like, say, human civilization.
Alternatively, initiate strife to refuse additional baked goods, and then abscond.

Ooh, this has been updated. I guess I'll have another go at it... Last time I played it was generally a matter of beating the fellow survivor to death, staggering around injured, dragging a few bits and pieces back to the shelter and then wandering off in search of construction tools/food and dying. :P
Let's see if I can do better this time...

I really like throwing wooden spears.  They're easy to make and high damage after you've leveled up throwing a bit.  At level 5, I take out a normal Z in two throws almost every time, sometimes one.  Combine this with some speed perks, and you can whittle down a horde from out of reach.  It's even safer than the window trick.  I'm using Quick and Fleet-Footed, and I got Roadrunner out of a mutation, so I can even kite hulks to death.  This is the same character that spent day one juicing up on cocaine.  Starting day 5 now.  My best ever, and it's the first one I made in the new version  :D

Throwing and kiting have always been pretty OP, I've often been pretty amazed that more people don't use it.

That's where all the stories about killing one-shotting a Hulk by throwing a fetus at it's head came from, heh.

It's less powerful than it used to be, but still silent and fairly effective.

I honestly don't believe kiting is overpowered. What better way to deal with mindless creatures then to take advantage of their mindlessness? It is why Shock Zombies are often a big deal, because they can seriously ruin your zombie massacre powers.
