I love making highly specialized characters even if they're terrible.
I often pick illiterate, tough and assorted traits, then go around looking for mansions and pawn shops, dress in plate armour, wield a morningstar, and pretend to be Sir Robin aka the Time Travelling Knight.

Having a bit better luck with static spawns now.  A gun shop spawned close enough to the edge of town for me to rush in and load up.

I am now mowing down the entire city with an SKS, ruger redhawk, and SIG Mosquito as I explore.  I'm sure I'll eventually run out of ammo, but I'll have a big huge swath of safe city by the time I'm done.  And I've already found a car.

Have you tried deleting your options.txt?

Just tried this, no change :(.
Can you take a screenshot of your options menu for me?
Sure:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

When I took the screenshot I noticed that there is some higlightable but invisible text under "# Spawn zombies at game start instead of during the game.  You must create a new world after changing". Don't know if that helps.

Also, having it set to 72x26 on the viewport size lets me fill my entire 1600X900 screen. This is how Cataclysm was meant to be played!

Nice, a new update. The spawn system sounds great though I have to upload a couple videos still that are in v0.1 but I should get a v0.2 up tonight. Luckily I ended my last video I have on a death. Oh and as for screen size I have found 52x22 makes the viewport 720p for me.

So it seems I accidentally put my canteen in my wheelbarrow and didn't notice... and then I got really thirsty... so right before going to sleep I go to take a swig from my canteen and... end up snorting a line of low-grade meth.

I like the sound of the new spawn system, but will it be limited to zombies? I don't want to run out of rabbits.

Oh, didn't know about this. Yep, everything is fine, it's right there in the menu. Thanks! Although now I have to start a new character and I'd found 80 Adderal on day 1. 80!

I haven't played this in such a long time, but it seems that the zombies spawning has been worked on! So... I found a truck, loaded it up with a bunch of food, tools, medicine, and other stuff, drove off, and did thousands of damage to zombie hordes in my get-away  :P..... What's a good place to make a base? I'm good with a rifle and I have one with a silencer on it. I've got some basic books on construction, cooking, trapping, and some form of crafting which name I've forgotten. It just seems like I should go to one of those abandoned farmhouses and reinforce it.

Also, where can I get the following?

- clean water (am I just going to have to scavenge for water purifying methods/bottled water forever?)
- Nails. I noticed some nails next to some debris. Can I destroy stuff for nails now?

How do I repair/modify cars?

Do dirt mounds in farms randomly spawn food items throughout the game?

How do you craft bullets?

Do you need to assault a military base to get in? Or is there some sort of trick you can use? (EMP maybe?)

What do you do when there is a zombie horde in every city, guarding all the good stuff?

Is there a wiki I'm missing for the new version?

Okay, this spawn system seems to trade the horde's ability to home in on a moth fart for EVERY TYPE OF ZOMBIE IN A FEW FEET OF EACHOTHER.

Farmhouses are good, cabins are also good, and LMOE shelters are practically ideal.  I've noticed garages make pretty good bases too, though since they are in the city you'll have to clear a big chunk of the city to make it safe.

You can turn 2 or 3 hotplates into a water purifier if you have the skill.  You'll need a couple other parts, but the heating elements are the main things you want from hotplates.  And using that it's very easy to just fill a jerrycan with water and use the purifier on that to get 40 units of clean water.

And yes, you can destroy structures for nails now.  A molitov cocktail on a building will make it implode into a fireball, then just give some time for the fire to go out and you got tons of nails.  Also in the construction menu you can deconstruct most furniture with a hammer and screwdriver those give nails too.

How do I repair/modify cars?
'e'xamine the car and it will give you a GUI for all things car maintenance related.  You'll need a welder loaded with batteries and wrench for most things though, and a hacksaw if you plan on removing parts.  You also need mechanics skill. Different amounts for what yer planning on fixing.  Fixing most basic stuff requires 3 maintenance, more complicated stuff needs more.  If the part is completely trashed you only need one skill, but you need a replacement part.

Do dirt mounds in farms randomly spawn food items throughout the game?
Nope.  Newly discovered farms always seem to have fresh food in their fields though.

Quote
How do you craft bullets?
You need gunpowder a couple dozen casings, some lead, and a primer for the size of the bullet yer making.  I think you'll also need a hand press and die set.   A kinetic bullet puller lets you disassemble unneeded bullets to get gunpowder and lead for bullets you need.  Primers and casings are harder to come by.

To get into a bunker the easiest way is to assult a military base at night and get some military IDs.  You can also electrohack the door (with skill) or just blast the bunker open with explosives or a big car.  Careful though, there's hostile turrets inside unless you use an ID, so if yer breaking in, prepare for a fight.

Not sure yet.  I looted a gun store and went rambo on the place and that seemed to work.  It would be pretty hard without a good gun and mountains of ammo though.

Not yet that I know of.

I found that clearing a corner of a city out somewhat can be accomplished with creating a strong character with good melee skills and camping in a single wide window you smashed to get the zombies. Necros though make this harder unless you clear the window so the corpses just land in front of you where you can grab them, otherwise they can either go next to you or outside and neither is really desired.

Half of that fight with the two brutes lastnight, I survived by snorting cocaine repeatedly and running circles around a big crater.  I had scavenged over 50 units of cocaine from a bunch of dead people earlier.  I waited for the brutes to damage themselves enough in the debris that I could finish them off throwing wooden spears.  You're going to need some drugs to outrun brutes or hulks, but if your character is decently fast, this tactic could work on most other groups of zombies.

That fight happened during sunset, and it was completely dark shortly after.  While stumbling through the dark looking for shelter (what I had been doing before encountering those brutes), I was ambushed by a bear.  I snorted some more cocaine and landed an extremely lucky headshot with my one steel spear.  Then managed to stop my excessive bleeding and pass out in the dirt just outside a military bunker.  Thus ended Day One: The Cocainening.

When I get home from work, I'll begin Day Two: Congratulations You're A Junkie Now.

By the sound of it, gunning down zombies continuously will eventually kill all the zombies in an area? Or will they just keep coming in larger waves due to sound?

It sounds like if you activate the new spawning thing they all get pregenned and sound will only be drawing nearby zombles instead of spawning them.

Edit: Hmm, I was planning on uploading v0.2 videos tonight but then Quill18 started streaming SimCity and now that thats over I probably won't be able to finish processing any video I make tonight to get it started uploading.
