Is there a way to split stacks of items? That would be rather helpful.

Drop, pick back up? Unless you mean like a stack of ammo or batteries, in which case, no.

So i tried catclysm today and i belive i'm pretty bad at this game:

If i stay in the towns i get swarmed, if i stay out i get swarmed when starving and without supplies. Is there something i'm missing here ? Any tips how to start ? Also i love how sleeping in toxic waste dump gives you superpowers ;P (Well sort of)

Well. It looks like you were using a gun. Guns create a lot of noise, which attracts more zombies. It's an endless cycle. I use guns as a last resort, and I don't stick around after clearing out the initial horde.

When killing zombies, you should try to use near silent weapons, such as melee weapons or bows.

It had no ammo and I suspect it never had any.
Happens a lot that shops don't stock the ammo for the guns they have.

Great work guys, this is fantastic.

To drop only part of a stack, type a number before pressing the relevant letter.

To split a stack of items you enter a number before the item letter.  Say if you have 100 rounds of ammo and the ammo is letter B typing 60B while dropping would drop 60 bullets while keeping 40.

Most folks suggest going into town only til about 9:30 (when zombies start spawning) getting everything you can and hitailing it out of there.  I prefer to stay in town a little longer and kite the zeds until I get what I need.  One of the first things you want is clothing with lots of pockets.  Backpacks and rucksacks are ideal.  Utility vests and belt rigs second.  Anything with pockets 3rd.

Once you got that look for important stuff, staying in one place for a long time in town is a very bad idea, so we're mostly looking for stuff that will help us survive in the wilderness.
*Mil. Surplus stores tend to have lots of food and water, as well as backpacks, rucksacks, belt rigs, and combat knives.  If yer lucky you can even find some first aid and water purifiers.  MREs are great, very nutritious, and they don't spoil.
* Sporting goods stores have camping gear. Tents are good if you don't think you'll find any real shelter easily. But the big things yer looking for are backpacks if you don't already have one, frying pans, hotplates(if yer afraid of playing with fire), and lighters.  If you can find a bow of some kind with ammo (bolts for a crossbow, arrows for a long or composite bow) they make a great hunting weapon.  Though you probably won't down much bigger than rabbits until you get skill.
* Grocery stores have food.  It's possible to manage off hunting if you have some kind of knife but for the first few days grocery store food hasn't rotted yet, and they can supply you with a few days worth of food.  Anything in a tin can won't spoil, just about everything else but water and soda will.
* Parking Lots and garages can have a vehicle.  They can kinda be a mixed blessing. Seems just about anything bigger than a 2L engine without a muffler will call every zombie to you, but at the same time, the fastest zombie only runs at 15 mph.  The right vehicle can make your life 10x easier, and the wrong vehicle can make you unable to loot anything nearby safely.  If you plan on using a vehicle long term, you'll also want a welder, a wrench, and a hack saw.  Mechanical books like under the hood, and mechanical mastery will be good too.

Did they remove the option to deconstruct flashlights/soldering irons/etc? The crafting formulas no longer work for them and the old "use a screwdriver" thing doesn't work either.

Only problem is that you need to stock up with a lot of food and water because you'll never be able to leave for the pile of zombies piled around you.

Looking at your pic id say one if your issues is you are firing a loud gun, that spawns alot of zombies, unless you are firing a silenced .22, or CB ammo in a .22 you probably dont want to wander through town firing at everything, for a gun character save the highpowered guns for the highpowered enemies.  Till you get badass enough to just kill everything that comes your way anyway.  Other thing is 1 tile wide windows, takes the Zs a few turns to climb through, you can kill them with a half decent melee wep like a hammer before they can get a swing off, you can take huge packs out this way.

So I just played the latest version, and I've got to say - I'm impressed. Lots of the old bugs and issues I hated about the older versions are completely gone and make the game much more playable, plus all the little additions (items, buildings, not full-retard map generation) make it very fun.

I managed to find myself a nice little hideout near a mine that happen to be bugged so that the door was inaccessible. The coal storage room, however, proved to be a nice camp. I had ammunition reloading and dismantling tools, batteries, a crossbow with about 20 bolts, and a crap ton of water. Just outside was a flatbed truck for me to dump all my useless crap valuable equipment in. Unfortunately, the chair was broken and I couldn't drive it.

I decided to head to town to see if I could find some tools to fix the truck. On my way, I found a temple and was quickly nommed on by a centipede. Three crossbow bolts was enough to slow it down and let me escape the rest of its herd. I ran a little to the west and came upon a massive farm, complete with bared wire fencing. I stole a few vegetables and check out one of the two barns. The largest was empty, and the smaller one had a little girl inside that I'd been trying to find for weeks. (Seriously, zombies in a barn.  Who knew?)

The little girl, and about a dozen of her friends, broke out and ate my flesh right on top of the corn I was just stealing.

All-in-all, lots of fun... if you manage to survive long enough to do anything. Pro tip: Get what you need in town and NEVER EVER GO BACK. Also, crossbows. Get one.

So, my recent character has been struggling to survive ever since he got influenza. It's passed, but I can never find enough food or water. Always hungry, always thirsty. Hunting the wildlife and making dashes into town for water has been my only means of survival. After not sleeping for two days straight, I dragged my character into a mining quarters and went to sleep.

I woke up to this:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Needless to say I woke with a small heart attack at seeing this hungry bear outside. Now I'm unsure what I should do. I somehow lost my preferred weapon, a combat knife, while sick, and have been making due with a wood spear my character isn't trained for. Obviously I can't handle this beast in melee, even with a window advantage. I'll get torn to shreads.

I also have two bullets left in my pistol that I've been trying my best to save for emergencies. With my current skills I'm unsure if it will be enough.

So yeah, I reach out to you Bay12 and your infinite wisdom to advise my character how to get out of this mess. I had an idea revolving around breaking the door down, and setting it on fire, and when the !!bear!! came charging into the room I'd make my escape through a window, but idk how effective that would be.

How many supplies do you have, Orb? Alcohol, butter knifes, rocket launcher, maybe a little mary-jay?

This could be a fun game for us. List the resources you had a certain difficult point in your game and ask people how they'd get out of it. Personally, I'd toss a molotov at the window, break the other window and run away. If the bear follows, lay down and hope he chokes on your femur before getting to your intestines.
