My Theory on Cataclysm is that several armagedon scenarios happened all at once.

We had a Solar Flare, a meteor struck, there was a zombie outbreak, a Elder god awakened on earth, a distopian megacorp took over, There was a nuclear war, Giant insects controlled by an intelligent hive mind attacked, alien invasion, totalitarian government bent on populous control, and the housing market crashed!
You forgot mad scientists.

Just having a mad scientist doesn't mean you end the world.

@Ygdrad: It's an attachment. You find it like the rest of them, randomly.

Something I would very much like to do is be able to haul or make a refrigerator back to my base of operations and hook it up to a solar cell to keep meat stuffs and frozen foods better edible for longer. That would be pretty nifty, I think.

Assuming it still had Freyon. Given that there is a hole in the Ozone layer I can only assume all the CF4s went off at once.

Having a small issue that I am not sure of the cause: Every now and then the game will completely lock up. It just stops, and no longer accepts keyboard input. I checked the process and it says it is using 0% processor. This has happened to me before, but I never seem to learn to periodically save and reload heh.

A bonus to myself though! Finally managed to kill some wildlife and successfully butcher them ^_^ So now I have some nice Deer and Wolf steaks and pelts. Err, did... since that save is now dead by lockup :P  How dangerous are bears? I was right about to go throw some wooden spears at one and then let it chase me back to the NPC at the evac shelter and let it maul him...

Bears are only dangerous if one is going to fight them... in melee. As a test, I once sent a character with 4 points in dodge, and 4 in melee to fight a bear with full health using a combat knife. His torso health dropped from something around 100 to 15.

NPCs, on the other hand, can take some punishment in melee before going down, so it would be safe to assume that the NPC will handle and survive a bear assault. If the bug from robots applies to bears too when fighting with NPCs, the bear is probably just going to stand near the NPC until he dies from the NPC's assaults\fists\punches\presence.

Aye, but when you play a fighter, only doors will know fear in your presence.

Huh, was there any specific map tile you were near when it happens?

@ComputerWarrior: the NPC that I was going to lead it to was in the middle of destroying a pack of wolves when I left it using his Toad Style or Frog Style or whatever hand to hand he was using. He may have whooped the bear with or without the robot bug, dunno.

@The Darkling Wolf: I was on a road at the time, but it has occurred within buildings that I had just cleaned out of stuff. It seems to happen most often when I am overburdened and when NPC Debug messages have shown up on the screen recently. I was in the middle of traveling between two Labs to see if there were lab scientist corpses to loot in between them when this most recent one occurred. I am not sure if this has happened on my Win7 Desktop or not but it has happened numerous times on my Win8 Laptop.
Another question that comes to mind is: What causes NPC's heads to explode? I had a few games back a series of NPC debug messages pop on screen and then after a bit the nearby NPC just sorta exploded... it was a little weird. A little after that I think my character started hallucinating, so that may have been during the hallucination but I am not entirely sure.

Their heads explode if the game manages to catch them doing something that will cause it to crash.

Mayby you could try to put a .txt file named no_npc in your game directory to see if NPCs have anything to do with it?

Npcs that are already spawned still stick around.

I was having that bug too, where the game would randomly freeze up (mine gave the message asking me which direction I wanted to shock in despite not having a tazer though while it was frozen), I assumed it was linked to the NPCs and put in no_npc.txt and imploded any NPCs I came across until their population was reduced.

Now that there are less NPCs I haven't encountered it again.  So my guess is that it's linked to npcs.

Doublepost, but it's been a couple hours.

I'd also like to know how to attach a crossbow to a rifle.

After spending quite a long time searching for an underslung crossbow I decided to look through the code.

After an hour of figuring out what file contains what code (and being distracted by shiny looking stuff) I think I have discovered that the "itm_gun_crossbow" does not actually spawn anywhere.  Which I guess makes sense, it wouldn't be a military weapon, and would be a bit on the crazy side for a sporting goods store.   Maybe it would work in a gun nut house, but it's not there either.

Perhaps a crafting recipe?  Since I can't compile cataclysm to make sure it works under Visual Studio(probably just wrong compiler and my inexperience), I don't want to throw it into the git.  But with a little bit of studying the crafting format would something like this work?
Code: [Select]
RECIPE(itm_gun_crossbow, CC_MISC, "gun", "archery", 1, 500, true);
  COMP(itm_crossbow, 1, NULL);
  COMP(itm_string_36, 1, NULL);

If I understand that right, it makes an underslung crossbow, that requires 1 skill in firearms (and at least some skill in archery, which probably means it requires 1 as well) makes 1 underslung crossbow, takes 500 turns, can be deconstructed, takes 1 crossbow, and 3ft string to make.

How do I take apart windows and floors?

Oh, and it's a fun game, so far I've been eaten and blow myself up twice.
