Thinking of trying out this new version. Just one thing always ends up ruining my fun... Well, a few things actually.
It's those higher level/more exotic threats, like Triffids and Fungals. In my last game, I had a greatly skilled, well-equipped character attempt to take out a fungal spire. I had read from veteran players here that you should be able to burn spires down with fire. Sounded simple enough. Most recommended method: molotovs. Do you think that worked? Over the course of an ingame week, I threw about thirty of them right at the beating heart of that stuff, and would it die? Fuck no. It just sat there, burning, for DAYS ON END, constantly healing itself and dousing the flames and rebuilding those annoying walls that were impossible to break down long enough to access the center tile. Most damage I saw was "mildly hurt". I'd end up surrounded by fungus monsters that were multiplying by 500x every turn. There were so many of them in the area that I started seriously worrying about RAM usage, and I have 8GB! Eventually I'd run out of food/water/molotovs, and be forced to head back to town... and when I came back, fully restocked, it was as if I'd never visited. The spire would be at max health again, and there was just no point in trying.
It's disheartening, because nobody else seems to have that much trouble dealing with them. Eventually, I'd made so much noise and destruction and so many increasingly careless trips into the city for supplies... Of course, I slipped up. Ran into a Hulk when my speed was down and I couldn't escape it. That was the end of many hours skilltraining. Again. I just dunno what I do wrong. It really spoils the game for me. I reach a point where normal zombie hoardes become little more than a chore to cut through, and yet I still can't handle any of the more serious threats.
