Whales is no longer actively working on Cataclysm? :S Sure, it has been a while since I had last visited the Cataclysm forums (a minimum of two weeks) so I have been left uninformed about the latest happenings in Cata's development, but still...

Well, anyway, if that is the case (as in Whales not updating Cataclysm anymore) then I wish thou all who shall continue the development of Cataclysm or ensure its survival in other ways good luck!

Posting to watch, and I have a suggestion.

I remember Whales wanting to tweak the chargen a bit. Specifically, to segregate skills from the other build points so that people wouldn't feel they're "wasting" points in skills instead of more permanent stuff.

So, why not add a separate "skill point pool" in the chargen that only works for training skills?

This new thread intrigues me, primarily about the question of whether Whales is still hands on with this project.

PTW, and what did I miss concerning Cataclysm's events?

That's the good side of having a project set in open source, if a coder is not interested anymore in his  project, if another coder is interested he can take over or fork it without a problem.

Great to see that Cataclysm will then see more development this way, it is a good game with a lot of potential.

I think I hated you for some offense I can't remember, but for maintaining Cataclysm, now I like you. :P

Inquiry: is there a changelog stating what's different from the last Whalesian version?

I'll see about getting a changelog together for you guys and adding it to the OP. I know (at the very least) most of the major bugs have been fixed, there's a new and improved lighting system, and that there are a lot more recipes.

And as of last night, wild animals are afraid of fire (including crafted torches) and you can open certain windows from the inside.

Obviously, there is a LOT more than that that has been added though.

Edit:

Yeah, I'll do a better changelog up at some point, but that highlights some of the new shit.
E: Also, the lighting system works fine on Windows.

I can not post to watch hard enough.

Whales if you happen to come by and take a look at this, I'll miss ya man, but it looks like your creation is in good hands.

Would the emulator image found here update with your version without any editing?

I don't see why not, although, again, I should specify that there is, in fact, a windows version...

I entered a cave.  I then found that an ex handiman with a hatchet can not take on a bear.

Nice touch with the curtained windows.  I also found a lawnmower in a hardware store.  I can only imagine what that is used for.
