I'm not upset about the abundance of fat zombies. They're slow enough to dance around needling them with arrows. It's the goddamn zombie dogs I hate.

And moose. Holy crap, moose. Arrows do nothing to them.

Thermal dissipation is like most other bionics - its effect stops at your skin, so your clothing can and will burn while you're under its effect. Try wearing some firefighter turnout gear and/or nomex clothing and/or survivor fire armor. And remember if the fire is sufficiently intense even combining thermal protection CBMs and fire protectant gear won't keep you going forever, so stay out of the really intense flames even if you have the proper gear.
I've not yet unlocked survivor fire armor then, although I did just realize that you can get chunks of Nomex from cutting up fire gear.  Although looking through the json, it appears there's only the suit, no helmet, gloves, etc. for fireproof survivor gear.  And I can't seem to find any flags that make it appear particularly fireproof either, except for having nomex as a material.

According to the wiki, you only become 'on fire' if standing in a maximum intensity fire, and even then the Thermal Dissipation CBM will prevent you becoming 'on fire'.  While you are 'on fire' clothing you're wearing will take damage, though metal clothing will at a highly reduced rate (2% chance of damage per turn).  So either you're mistaken about clothing, the wiki is outdated as usual, or I need to go walking through some fires.

ALSO: I had a dream in ASCII last night.  I was in Cataclysm, wading through zombies in heavy armor, until I got hit by a giant white worm, which hit me hard enough to send me flying.  And not just flying, but old school DF "goblin golf" flying, where I simply traveled in a straight line directly east, over a significant field and roads until hitting a building and dying instantly.
-I now suggest to include "Giant White Worm" as the 'hulk equivalent of worms'.

EDIT: I copied my save folder, lit a building on fire, and when it started burning in earnest I stood outside a few tiles, and activated BOTH internal climate control AND thermal dissipation.  They both consumed power, but even standing a few tiles outside the fire itself, I suffered extreme heat.  I didn't seem to get blisters, but I became so hot that I began vomiting and died of dehydration.  I'm not entirely sure these bionics actually do ANYTHING, since that's the same way I've died in previous games.

It doesn't require special flags, as all of its fire-resistance is contained within the Nomex material type itself. As for there not being specific survivor firearmor gloves and such, that's more a matter of me needing to sit down and flesh out the survivor suit equipment list a bit more.

The flat 2% chance of armor damage no longer applies to all clothing. Used to be, every time an article of clothing was struck it would take damage if a: the damage was more than that piece of clothing protects you for, or b:  random 2% chance. The clothes with the new STURDY tag can still be damaged by attacks that do more than they protect you for, but not as a result of a flat 2% chance roll.

As for the CBMs not keeping you alive while slow-roasting yourself, that's what I was talking about. No amount of materials or CBMs will protect you past a certain point. But if you're wearing enough fire resistant gear you can stroll through a burning building without damage so long as you don't slow down too much.

So, would laying some firefighter gear over my survival suit actually help get me through a fire?  Would my other clothing just burn away?

Yeah, throwing fire resistant clothes on over your other stuff should protect you and your clothing from fire.

Note that I say fire resistant and not fire immune because, just like in the real world, those fire resistant clothes can't protect you from everything. So stay out of the super intense fires if you can, and don't stick around in the middle of a big fire for too long, and your Nomex and such will protect you pretty danged well. Your best bet for playing in extensive fire is to wear the entire Nomex inner suit (hood, gloves, socks, and suit) underneath either an entry suit, firefighter turnout gear, or a survivor firesuit.

I like the new battery powered weapons. I found an electric carving knife, wish I hadn't dropped it, but the circular saw is awesome. It'll see me until I can get a broadsword/katana.

My circular saws are bugged, any mob trying to drop them generates a no_item and a debug warning - several days old download.  Doesn't bother me much though, I'm using my flaming Zwey to great extent.  Might be interesting to see electric versions of melee weapons though, like the tactical tonfa but with a broadsword.

The circular saw item drop bug was fixed a few days ago.

I love gasoline lanterns. Two of them and you have 1000 units of gasoline.

If you need gas, try hitting up a gas station or siphoning abandoned cars with a length of rubber hose (which you can get by smashing a refrigerator). Thousands upon thousands of units of free gas, just waiting for a crazy pyromaniac to use them as fuel in a homemade explosive/flamethrower/flaming sword.

Don't worry, I know that. I just like getting free gasoline without needing to worry about finding a gas station in the middle of nowhere or siphoning cars. It's like winning $50 dollars in the lottery: you could easily make that money, but it's a nice surprise.

I use my flaming zweihander as a torch these days.  I modded the "empty canister" to hold 1 unit of liquid, treating is basically as "metal bottle" or as "thermos" and carry another 200 units of gasoline in it (50 in the sword).  If you can get a flaming weapon, I imagine a flaming broadsword is also great, is serves as a sharp item for butchering and cutting clothes, as well as a light for setting fires, and as a flashlight.  The only better thing, is if there might be a butcher knife version...

(also, gasoline is 200 per 1 storage, so 1,000 gas is only 5 storage, not even 6 plastic bottles' worth!)

Sigh, lit a fire to cook some meat, zombie staggers into it and explodes, and there goes my cart full of loot. Easy come easy go, I suppose.

Always stand at least 1 tile separate from fire.  Dropped ammo explodes, but only in a 3x3.
